I recently took the Six Sigma Green Belt exam and passed - this book was an OK overview of Six Sigma, but it was far from complete. Many topics required for the test were barely touched upon. I strongly recommend instead the Certified Quality Engineer Handbook by Borror and Implementing Six Sigma by Breyfogle. Both books are excellent - I used these as my reference material during the test and continue to use these as reference material at work.

I used the CSSGB Handbook to study for the ASQ exam without benefit of a prep class, and passed first time. However it was not my only reference, and years of labor to improve quality also helped. Initially I was slowed-up and frustrated by errors that still showed up after going through the latest list of errata. I believe the authors intend to make the handbook as error-free and accurate as possible, and one of the co-authors regularly contributes to the users group on "LinkedIn." Six sigma practices are not just a branch of statistics, and the book really did help understanding the purposes and dialect of technology that falls under the "Six Sigma" banner.

If you have some inspector's instincts to dig down until you understand it, the topic coverage is a useful roadmap, and even the Juran handbook comes up short in that area. My e-mail and some Internet searching seem to indicate that a significant amount of specific six sigma literature is riddled with errors right now, possibly due in part to the relative newness of the field compared to CQE materials.

This book absolutely lives up to its title. The book does not claim to be a one-stop-shop for Six Sigma knowledge, nor does it claim to be a comprehensive reference. What it certainly accomplishes in doing is to present itself as an excellent reference for the ASQ SSGB certification exam. Every topic covered in the BoK is broached upon in this book.

Some obscure concepts that ended up in the test like 'takt time' have not been covered, but you could allow a few slip-ups in an otherwise well-organized book. Mind you, there are typos that you could find, but one of the authors is very active on LinkedIn, and maintains a good forum there.

If one wants a comprehensive Six Sigma reference, it can be found in either of these texts:

1) Implementing Six Sigma by Breyfogle, Forrest W
2) The Six Sigma Handbook, Third Edition by Thomas Pyzdek and Paul Keller

To prepare for the ASQ exam, another great source is the material that Indiana Quality Council puts out. This is especially useful in preparing for the ASQ SSBB exam.

This book was critical in passing the ASQ Exam for the Green Belt. As it is an open book test, this is the book to know to pass the exam. Clearly, there is far more to being a Six Sigma Green Belt than what is in this book, that knowledge is on your own professional curiosity to find, but if the goal is passing the ASQ exam, you need this book. Get to know it well, so you are not fumbling around looking for answers. The test is still challenging even with access to this book.

As a quality engineer, i recommend that book to everyone who is interested in researching the concepts of six sigma.It is meant for beginners or more advanced users.It contains a big variety of issues and is very well written.

Was a good book to read along with taking the class. Gives a good overview of Lean Six Sigma principals, but for most people would not be enough to understand fully just from the book.

The book was brand new. However, it is apparent that when the book pages were being trimmed and bounded in the bindery of the shop that assembled the book, they made some big errors! Many folios (pages) have the page numbers half trimmed off and others are completely trimmed off. Also, many of the cross-overs do NOT match up. This was an expensive book and I am not happy that I received a bad produced book!!!

There are also a few grammatical errors in the text of the book. Very poor editing job in my opinion.

However, the content is decipherable and does assist in thorough understanding of Green Belt Six Sigma application in the work force and industry.
