Having just taken (and passed) the CWNA exam with this as my primary reference, I applaud the authors, both for their thorough coverage and readable style. This is one of the best exam prep books I've used. My advice: read it cover to cover, then read the last chapter (802.11n) at least one more time... there were more questions about HT than I was expecting. The test is quite up-to-date.

The CWNA study guide by David Coleman and David Wescott is an excellent detailed overview of the 802.11 technologies. As an RF Engineer and Consultant, I often find people have switching and routing backgrounds, but lack the fundamentals of wireless networking. I recommend this book to them because it is clear, concise, and easy to follow- whether you are reading a single concept or an entire chapter. The book has the right amount of depth to be understandable to the beginner, and also keep seasoned engineers interested. It does an excellent job of covering all the aspects needed to pass the certification exam, and provides a solid foundation where students can build upon as they go into the higher levels of learning, and administration of WLANs.

This version of the CWNA study guide is the best yet. The authors have drawn on their years of experiences in both training and in the field and have poured their hearts out.

The section on 802.11n is a great foundation for anyone wishing to get a primer to begin understanding the massive changes that 802.11n has brought about. The RF principles are outstanding and some of the best I've seen yet in any 802.11 text of which I've read most. Never have I seen a book that actually explained the radiation diagrams (you might know these to be the e-plane or h-plan diagrams) that antenna and access point manufacturers provide. I had to look long and hard to find good info on that previously. Bottom line, the foundational topics important to just about every aspect of WiFi is contained in this book.

Without question, this book should be the WiFi bible for anyone dealing with WiFi for their organization whether wanting to achieve the CWNA certification or not.

For any one seriously preparing for this exam, this guide is the only thing you need. Study it word for word. Don't gloss over any section, no matter how seemingly obscure it appears. Commit to memory all the coaxial connector specs, max EIRP of all the bands (IEEE limits, not FCC), all the seemingly endless variants of EAP, and all the IEEE admendments (the so called alphabet soup).
Hope Amazon won't delete this, but buy it from CWNP with the whole CWNA package, and the book will be for practically free, considering all the valuable extras that come with it. The assesment and bonus exams are much too simple, and unless you get 90's the first time (not after the third), then you are probably not ready.
But the book is not flawless. Few times too many, the authors use networking slangs and lingo (the vernacular if you will), which makes for smooth writing, but the eager reader is hanging on every word, and can get frustrated easily if not stated in black and white. There are too many `this subject is beyond the scope of the the CWNA exam', which can soften up the candidate. There is a misprint (I'm sure) on page 460 Fig 13.8 where it shows that the VPN tunnel IP addrs are encrypted, while the SA and DA are in the clear. Should be the opposite. (That's not too bad for a 700 page text). And while the CD has many great auxiliary material, the all important protocol analyzer programs do not work, at least for this reviewer. They should have kept it a bit simpler. I'll stop here, in case I run into them at a CWNP bootcamp. CWNP or Bust!!!

I am a big fan of Coleman's CWNA and CWSP classroom training sessions.
And in terms of his publications, Coleman has done it once again. This book is great for beginners as well as experts who would need a reference book.
The book is easy to read and Coleman has done an excellent job in material arrangement so that everything gets absorbed faster.
From basic site survey to details such as interframe spacing, this is a really great book that also reflects Coleman's knowledge of Wifi and the ability to deliver the information in a easy to read form.
Highly anticipating Coleman's CWSP book!

The CWNA Official Study Guide by David Coleman & David Westcott is an excellent study tool for the CWNA PWO-104 Certification Exam. It is also an excellent reference tool with practical examples of real world issues and how to deal with them. This is a great book to have on your shelf. My volume is already well used because of its breadth and depth of useful information.

As a WiFi engineer and a CWNA, I consider this book to be an essential guide for anyone interested in WiFi, especially for those wanting to pursue a career in the WiFi industry. Whether or not you are preparing to be certified, this book contains all the fundamental knowledge you need to design, implement, maintain and troubleshoot a wireless network. The material on the book is presented very effectively and it is easy to read and understand, whether you are just beginning to learn about WiFi networks or are an experienced WiFi professional needing a thorough and accurate reference. The authors' vast expertise and knowledge is clearly reflected in the content and quality of this book.

I am a trainer for Wireless technologies, and it's great to see a study guide that addresses the common difficult subjects in such a clear readable way. The book covers every angle of wireless networking easily and cleanly, and will provide an ideal platform for beginners to get to grips with Wireless Networking, and for experienced engineers to brush up their skills. If you are going to buy a any book on wireless networking, make this the first, as it will give you the most solid of foundations.

As a CWNE and CWNT, I value material that can take the increasingly complex topic of Wi-Fi and make it understandable and applicable to your career. This book exemplifies what both a technical reference and study guide should. I highly recommend this book to anyone that would like to further their career by certification and / or gained knowledge in the exploding industry of Wi-Fi.
