Amazon.com Product Description

Bring out the room-jarring bass when watching movies or listening to music with the CLSC-15S front-firing powered subwoofer. Specifically designed to complement Cerwin-Vega's Classic series of stereo and home theater speakers, the sub sports a built-in 300-watt peak-power amplifier, a bass reflex enclosure, and a 15-inch high-excursion woofer, leading to a generous frequency response of 25 to 150 Hz. The resulting deep bass performance makes special effects sound thunderous and exciting, while adding power and intensity to everything from hip-hop to classical music.

The woofer itself is built for high power, with a custom-designed cast-aluminum frame, fiber-impregnated cellulose cone, and large high-temperature voice coil. And thanks to the continuously variable crossover, which ranges from 40 to 150 Hz, listeners can easily tailor the bass response to any system or environment. Additional features include an adjustable level control on the rear panel, a user-selected polarity switch, and auto-on/off sensing. The latter activates the sub when an audio signal is detected and turns it off when the signal ends.

The CLSC-15S, which sports a genuine black ash finish, connects to your system via its speaker-level inputs, line-level inputs, or unfiltered LFE input, depending on which option best suits your needs. And at 18.75 by 23.5 by 18.75 inches (W x H x D), the sub still takes up less space than most tower speakers and complements a variety of furnishings, from modern to classic. As with all Cerwin-Vega speakers, the sub carries a five-year warranty on parts and labor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing Subwoofer For The Money, January 13, 2006
This review is from: Cerwin-Vega CLSC-15S Classic Series 15-Inch 300-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black Ash (Electronics)
I'm going to start out by saying that I <3 Cerwin Vega products. I recently remodelled my home and lost a speaker in the process. Since I can't buy a single speaker in St. Louis for some reason, I decided to order a replacement E-712 floor standing speaker for my home theater. Well, when I saw the price on this sub I had to grab it. The 1st thing you notice when you get it is the sheer size. I'm used to the bulk of the E-712 because I use 4 of them in my HT setup w/ matching center channel. This speaker still looks massive alongside those monster speakers. The build quality is super heavy duty. The cabinet has a nice dark finish and the metal speaker grille will keep your sub nice and undamaged. I went to a couple of specialty stores with a demo CD and tested alot of other subs costing a lot more, but nothing had enough bottom end. Most of the 12" powered units just didn't hit hard enough, and the only 15 / 18" units I found were super high end $2,500 subs that were overkill for the size of the room I'm working with. I only use high end components so I wouldn't have minded paying more for a better sub but I couldn't find a better deal. Pound for pound this thing is a beast. Even on the lowest volumes you can feel the bass rumble from the cabinet. The adjustable crossover, phase control and volume knobs are all adequate. I like the # of imput options given (RCA, LFE or speaker wire) and the smart on / off was a nice touch. This thing really brings the low end to life. I've got the crossover set on 50Hz and the sound is absolutely incredible. I never turn it over 30% on the volume knob because it is just too loud. If you are looking for a fantastic deal, grab this sub. Even after the $50 shipping charge for the massive cabinet you still get a super deal @ under $300 for a super high end sub. This is a higher grade than most of the HT subs you will see in the major chain stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New BEAST On THA BLOCK !!, January 30, 2008

First I must say, if you are looking for a powered home sub-woofer that can perform at like say,..... concert like volume levels, then this is the sub for you. This sub rivals that of a high end concert sub-woofer, it sounds that good! After listening to higher priced subs in its class, this sub will easily blow most away. I grabed this sub off amazon.com over a year ago, and am very satisfied with its ongoing performance. The pros for this sub is that it has a rear double ported bass-reflex box design. It has a built-in fuse protection feature, an extra plus, and a very sturdy built fiber coated paper woofer and cast basket frame for handling high energy wattage to the speaker and voice coils. The built in amp is attached to the rear neatly and can be easily detacthed for maintenance to a Cerwin-Vega dealer if needed, as goes the same for the woofer. The Cerwin-Vega.com repair center located in south Florida is excellent at warranty coverage/repair for any component on this sub. The only cons I can see for this sub is that the woofer itself is rated to handle up to 400watts max, and the amp, up to 300 watts which should be more than enough for most. Being that it is a rear ported box, it must be placed in a corner for maximum bass performance, unlike a front ported box design. I replaced the Sub-woofer Driver with a Dayton 15" Reference Series High Fidelity 800watts max Sub-woofer Driver, and man, this thing packs an extra punch. This new driver can handle more than the built-in amp/ surround receiver amp can kick out. I've found that after continous extreme loud play over long periods, the subs overheat protection feature will kick in shutting off sound to the sub, meaning when this happens, you have to wait for the sub amp to naturally cool down before it will return back on. To combat this problem, I installed a cooling fan for the rear amp by attaching a clip-on fan to my front surround speaker stand located behind this sub in the corner of my living room. This thing will boom for hours now without shutoff making my home sound like a continuos concert. People come from blocks away now to investigate, or join in the party! Just make sure you have a good surround receiver. I'm running a Yamaha 5 channelx 110watts surround receiver 5950.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best subwoofer I have ever owned, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Cerwin-Vega CLSC-15S Classic Series 15-Inch 300-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black Ash (Electronics)
This is the first subwoofer I have owned that has the deep clean bass I have been looking for. I also like the metal grill as opposed to that flimsy cloth. I highly recomend this unit.
