I bought this CD over 2 years ago, but felt that I needed to review it here. The entire CD is AMAZING. I enjoyed EVERY track. This is a difficult feat for any CD, considering that about 98% of the time, I end up only enjoying MAYBE 4 out of 10 songs on most. That's not the case here. Her voice is beautiful, the music washes my stress away, and even though I don't know the dialect in which she is singing, I can gather that in some of the tracks, it is a lament of some kind. A good way to describe Ms. Evora's music is this: Billie Holliday Meets the Exotic West Coast of Africa. This CD will NOT disappoint!

Although Cesaria Evora sings mostly in a creole that I do not understand, I feel fully connected to every note and word that comes from her voice. I've been listening to this CD for years and have not tired of it. She transports me to her native land off the coast of Africa with each listening.

As an African-American of Cape Verdean descent, it makes me proud to know that the rest of the world has "discovered" the voice of this remarkable woman. Cesaria's melodies transform the listener, regardless of the lack of understanding the words. Her voice caresses the soul and paints an indelible picture of beauty on the heart. BRAVO, Cesaria Evora! Viva, Cabo Verde!

This woman is definitely a stand-alone singer...there's no comparison to anyone!! Her voice is so original and I could never tire of hearing her. Oo-ooh, if only I spoke her language, it would double the pure pleasure of her style.

If you enjoy music that can soothe a raging soul, then Mrs. Evora will deliever you a product that is like Ice Cream on a Hot Day. Her delivery is slow and methodical with a tempo that snaps with a fire like blaze. I have and will recommend this album to friends.

She takes you to a journey of another world and place where you'd only dream of going...

Wow. What a voice! I stumbled upon this disc by accident, but what a lucky find it was. Almost every song is memorable. I agree with the description below that her voice is reminscent of Billy Holiday. I had never heard any music from Cape Verde before, but this disc sent me in search of her earlier music. If you like Cuban music, salsa and Latin dance music, give this CD a try.

Portugese is such a lovely, romantic langauge when sung. Cesaria Evora's voice is all velvet and honey. The songs are beautiful. Some are filled with longing and stay in your mind. Oriundina is the one that haunts me. Just a beautiful CD.

I don't know her language. But she sings so soft and pure that it reminded me of my childhoods, those innocent days of true-ness and honesty. You will never forget it.

Cesaria Evora is undoubtedly one of the greatest singers of all time! Her voice and style of singing are truly universal and transcendent. No one who listens to her will remain unaffected: It is impossible to withstand the power of her music. A gift such as hers is very rare and should be honored accordingly. This CD is highly recommended!
