This is a really great cleanser, mild yet incredibly effective. It takes a while to find out how great it is, though; the cleanser doesn't suds up, doesn't have a great scent (or any scent!) and won't give you that "fresh clean" feeling right after you're done washing. Use it for several days, though, and you'll be won over: it does a great job of clearing your skin of dirt and make-up so there's nothing left to aggravate even very sensitive skin; it rinses really clean; it will leave your skin dewy but not oily.

Cetaphil is an amazing product. Our family has been using it for the longest time. It is not sudsy like ordinary soap which makes it very easy to rinse. You will not spend a lot of time just to remove that slippery feeling when using soaps. After you dry with a face towel, you will feel the difference on your skin. Oil is gone without you face feeling stretch dry. It is very gentle it was recommended before by my wife's derma for one of my sons when he had a skin problem.

I find all the various reviews amusing. I think people forget that everyone's skin is different and reacts differently to products. I've been using this cleanser for years, based on my dermatologist's recommendation. I was battling serious acne well into my 30s, I'm now 38 and have it under control by doing exactly what my dermatologist recommends. At first I bought both cleansers, the Gentle Cleanser and the Daily Facial Cleanser. The Daily Facial Cleanser stung my face pretty badly (yes, that is this one), so I used the Gentle Cleanser instead. When I returned to my dermatologist, I still needed help. I asked if it made a different which one of these products I use, and she said ABSOLUTELY YES, only use the Daily Facial Cleanser if I want to control my acne. So, I switched and dealt with my face stinging terribly each time I washed my face (twice daily, but two times in a row when I was washing off make-up to get all the make-up residue off). It didn't take too long and my skin seemed to adjust and no more stinging. I think the problem was my skin, NOT the cleanser. The cleanser actually helped to HEAL that problem. Now it's been a few years and it's so gentle on my skin. My acne is very much controlled (of course I have a whole routine and other products in conjunction with this). People have mentioned an overwhelming scent.....I actually would have to go upstairs and smell it to even see if they're right! It's certainly NOT unpleasant, and like I said, I can't even tell you if it has a scent or not and I've been using it for 3 years! It definitely doesn't linger on your face or hands either. My face feels great using this twice daily. I don't rub it into my eyelids because it does dry out my eyelids, otherwise it doesn't dry out my face one bit. GREAT product.

I picked up a sample of this at a health fair and flashed back to getting samples of Cetaphil when I when to my dermatologist's office several years ago. I don't know if they still hand this out at dermatologist offices today. To me, it never made much sense that my doctor recommended this for my very severe acne. It's good for average skin or those with the occasional oily spots and break-outs but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for anything more serious than that because it's a mild cleanser - too mild for anything more severe than the typical skin-cleaning needs. For those kinds of problems you need a deep cleanser.

The reviews saying this doesn't do a good job removing make-up pretty much prove my point. Even this type of Cetaphil for oily skin isn't much stronger than soap. Out of the samples I got from my dermatologist I found the Aveeno products far more effective at deep cleaning (Aveeno is an oatmeal-based product and oats are natural exfoliators). Cetaphil is a good cleanser if you want to get your skin clean but have no particular concerns other than that. It won't feel too medicine-y and unlike stronger cleansers, won't smell or make your skin feel too tingly after you use it (unlike Noxema which has menthol and feels like you rubbed mouthwash all over your face). And it does help with mildly oily skin and mild to possibly moderate acne. Just don't trust it if you're treating severe acne, at least not by itself.

I didn't have problem breakouts until I got into my 20's. My skin would usually be relatively clear and out of nowhere, I'd break out all over for days. My skin is very dry and it was tough trying to find something that was gentle enough to use that wouldn't dry out my face & make my skin feel like leather after I used it. I was using literally EVERYTHING on the market. About 2 months ago, my mom recommended Cetaphil. I bought this cleanser along with the moisturizing cream. I used them both twice a day, every day for roughly 3 days and my skin was already clearing up. The cleanser is very gentle, has basically no scent at all, and washes away really clean. The moisturizing cream is also a great buy for the money. You get a TON. It is, too, very gentle, and it doesn't make me feel like it's just sitting on top of my skin. After about a month of doing this routine religiously, I've been breakout free and completely clear since. Everyone's skin is different, but I definitely recommend giving this a go if you haven't had luck with anything else. It changed my life.
