Beware of "masking fragrance",
By Music lover "PJD" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar, 4.5-Ounce Bar (Pack of 6) (Health and Beauty)
I have mild rosacea, and have used this product for about 6 years. One bar lasts me about 2 years because I only use it once a day. It had been recommended by all the rosacea websites as the mildest one and until my current bar, I'd have rated it 5 stars.
However, after one week of using my new bar, my skin is itchy and irritated. Somewhere along the line they have started adding "masking fragrance." I contacted the company and they claim they have not changed the formula, but there's no way I could have been using it all these years and never noticed the perfume... it's the first thing I smell when I walk into the bathroom. Anyway, I'm going to try the GENTLE SKIN CLEANSER which is truly fragrance free...for now. And I thought this information from the Cetaphil FAQ at their website is rather revealing: Q. Is the Cetaphil® bar as mild as your liquid cleanser? A. No, our bar was formulated to be milder than other bar cleansers, but it is not as mild as our liquid cleanser. Q. What is the scent I smell in some of your lotions and creams? A. What you smell in our lotions and creams is the normal scent of the chemicals in the formula without any masking fragrance. We are unable to mask this odor without making the formula harsher to your skin.

WHAT A BLESSING!!,

This review is from: Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar, 4.5-Ounce Bar (Pack of 6) (Health and Beauty)
SUFFERING FROM SEVERE DERMATITIS I WAS INSTRUCTED TO USE AB UNSCENTED SOAP AND CETAPHIL WAS RECOMMENDED BY MY DOCTOR.
I HAD BEEN USING UNSCENTED DOVE SOAP WHICH DID NOT REALLY HELP AND LEFT A FILMY EFFECT WHEN ONE STEPPED OUT OF THE SHOWER. I TRIED A COUPLE OF SAMPLES AND IT DOES SEEM TO HELP AND APPEARS TO DININISH THE SEVERE ITCHING. QUITE EXPENSIVE IN LOCAL STORES BUT BUYING 6-12 BARS FROM AMAZON.COM REDUCES THE PRICE, WICH IS NOT HARD TO TAKE. SO FAR, I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT AND PLANNING TO TRY THEIR SKIN LOTION. THIS CONDITION IS INCURABLE AND AN ITCHING MAN HAS TO REACH FOR ANY STRAWS, SO TO SPEAK. I RECOMMEND AT LEAST GIVING THIS PRODUCT A TRY. THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE AND MORE TO GAIN.

If all the great people in the world used one brand of soap, I'm sure this would be it. What more can you ask? It cleans, moisturizes and doesn't leave you smelling like a French hewr after a shower.

I've been using Dove for years, as I've needed a non-abrasive soap, but this is much better than Dove (it's also not considered soap). It was strongly recommended by my dermatologist and works great. It's smooth, and leaves the skin healthy.

Cetaphil for Dry, Sensitive Skin- Good, Cetaphil Antibacterial- BAD!,
By MD (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar, 4.5-Ounce Bar (Pack of 6) (Health and Beauty)
I have used Cetaphil on and off for years, depending upon the time of year and how badly my rosacea is flaring (in the summer, I'm usually too oily for any of the Cetaphils to be very effective, but come winter, I am so dry and red and flaky, I can't imagine living without!).
I was having a reasonably difficult bout with Rosacea flaring that also sent out just a few pimples, which it sometimes will. I reached for the Antibacterial version for dry and sensitive to clean up the blemishes and make me feel new, as it often will. BIG mistake! I was drier, burning faster, and less comfortable than ever. I couldn't imagine why until I considered that the antibacterial might be too harsh. Switched to the normal style bar for dry/sensitive skin, and almost immediately much of the redness passed, along with a fair amount of the dryness. I expect it will take a few more days to completely clear, but word to the wise- unless it's hot and humid or you have zillions of bacteria-filled pimples, the antibacterial soap is very strong! Keep away if you are already dried out and red; the normal version will be fine instead!

Great for dry skin,
This review is from: Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar, 4.5-Ounce Bar (Pack of 6) (Health and Beauty)
My doctor recommended this product because of my dry skin. This has helped me very much - its a very mild cleanser which does not dry or irritate your skin. I would recommend this to anyone that has acne and/or dry skin problems.

I'm a middle aged woman who has a bit of rosacea and who still gets the occasional breakout. Cetaphil bar soap has improved my skin tone/texture and done away with those breakouts, completely.
In the past, I've primarily used pricey cleansers - Clinique, Philosophy, Clarins, etc - the kind you'd find only in fine department stores - and supplemented these with drug store products like Olay. Cetaphil beats 'em all, hands down. I discovered Cetaphil when I'd been visiting a friend (who happens to have an amazing complexion), and at the time was without my usual cleansing products. Her solution for facial cleaning was simple: Cetaphil soap and moisturizer. Period. Fast forward 12 months: The only cleanser that consistently gives me outstanding results is Cetaphil! Using this product line, my skin feels luxurious, and I can count on a clear complexion. FYI, I use Cetaphil's 15 spf facial moisturizer, too. The only product I'd like Cetaphil to produce, that it doesn't yet appear to, is an under-eye cream. For that purpose, I use Olay's Regenerist product that's targeted for this specific area.

My daughter's family uses quite a lot of this product. It wasn't much cheaper but it was easily obtained, whereas it's difficult to find in my area.
