Creative like a highly organized insane asylum, September 26, 2007

Went to a funky Korean restaurant, the kind of place where the menu is written on a blow up pleasure doll, here in Austin Texas and heard this album playing over lunch. The waiter told me who it was and I bought it that afternoon at Waterloo. They are a Piano based jazz trio with a whole lotta funk to keep it pinned down nicely. The jazziest parts of the cd are manic confusing dissonant scrambled highs but just when it seems the train has completely gone off the track they lock it down into a rail tight funk flow highlighted by some sweet organ and lunar effects. If these tunes were topography this would be the Bad Lands. Other tracks include chunky heavy handed chord based piano melodies that may remind you of Charlie Brown, then class lets out, the pianist looses the wrist weights and explores the nether regions of his right brain in beautifully light tinkling jam band expeditions. They always find their way back home and its an awesome round trip worth the ticket for anyone who loves music. I am a big time intelligent jungle, idm, and freak folk fan but these guys now have heavy rotation on my weekly playlist.
