I'm very impressed with the quality of these Chaco hiking shoes. I received them a week ago and have been wearing them everyday. They are extremely comfortable and offer excellent arch support. I ordered 1/2 size larger than I usually wear based on other reviews and they fit perfect. They are listed as a "multisport shoe", but potential buyers should understand that they are not a tennis or running shoe. They have harder, stiffer soles for hiking and walking.

If you are looking for a light weight all day hiker look no further. I bought these to wear with jeans for a more casual look, but now I find myself wearing them with everything. This is my third pair of Chacos and it will not be my last. They make comfortable shoes and sandals that offer all day comfort. I really like them because they offer great arch support without having to buy additional expensive insole. I could not be happier with these shoes.

I couldn't believe the price I got this shoe for. Extraordinary value for a great hiking sneaker. Chaco is known for high quality and this product appears to adhere to their high standards.

These are the best shoes fit and function i've purchased in years. They have a great fit for my heel and the toe box has plenty of room yet not sloppy. I purchased the the hiking boot first then went back to purchase the low top . thumbs up on these shoes from chaco shoes!!

Great lightweight hikers,

Theses shoes have great insoles that provide a lot of stability, and the sticky soles make hiking on sandstone a treat. Shoes are lightweight and comfortable.

I have several pairs of Chaco shoes - hiking boots, sandals, light hikers - so I wasn't too afraid to give these shoes a try. I wear them delivering the mail so they get plenty of use. I like that they are waterproof and the arch support is second to none.
It took a few days to really wear them in, but since then they've been great. I'm thinking of getting another pair!

This shoe is comfortable right out of the box and sturdy. It has a tough toe and great sole with plenty of traction. I however made the mistake of buying the wrong size. I normally wear a 9/9.5 but many of the other reviews said to get a whole size bigger so I got a 10. It almost fits, but because of the stiff soles my heels almost pop out when I walk. I would also prefer the mids to the lows as well. Too bad they were out of the 9.5 by the time I mine arrived.

Quite satisfied with the quality, fit, durability and appearance - an excellent value. My only reservation is the hardness of the black outer sole material. It is not as soft and pliable as one might expect.

I have a pair of Chaco Z1 sandals that I like quite a bit, so I had high expectations for the Canyonland. However, I have been disappointed so far. I have bought the Canyonland for their breathable waterproofing ability (eVent fabric, a competitor of Gore-Tex).
I have not tested the waterproofing claim yet, but I am confident that it will work well on the occasional wet days and puddles of water. However, they are definitely not very breathable. I come home everyday with sweaty feet because the perspiration (I am a programmer) does not vent well, however little. So, in less than two weeks, the shoes already start to smell. This prompted me to insert an additional activated charcoal (what irony :-) insole to try to combat the odor. It could very well be that the eVent fabric in addition to the suede/leather upper is not a good combination for expelling moisture. More critically is the outsole--it is too hard. On very cold days when it is near or below freezing, the outsole is like cheap hard plastic and does not grip well on any hard surface like pavement stone or slate. On slick surfaces like wet restroom tiles, slick cobble stones and small ice patches, things get treacherous quickly if I don't pay extra attention with gentler steps. On the plus side, the arch support is beefy, the workmanship appears to be very good, and the shoes look pretty nice. However, for me, the shoes feels more like a pair of dress shoes (not very breathable, with slick rigid outsole and insubstantial cushioning midsole) than a pair of outdoorsy shoes. I am going back to another pair of Helly Hansen (the Canyonland is supposed to replace my first generation Helly Hansen Kirkut) because of my positive experience: very comfortable (much more so than Canyonland), very grippy AND very long lasting outsole (but their bonding process is terrible and I have to use Freesole to mend several small spots of outsole separation from the midsole around the edges), very breathable and definitely waterproof (HellyTech XP is similar to Gore-Tex), amazing insulation (hiked in ankle deep snow) without feeling like mini toasters in the summer, and very nice looking. Just a great pair of all-season all-activity everyday shoes that I gladly suffer the occasion outsole repairs. The Canyonland, however, has short comings that I cannot easily workaround. |
