5.0 out of 5 stars Great light hiking boot
These are great boots. Since I usually wear a wide width, I ordered a mens and they fit fine. They are light weight, but provide support. I usually wear orthodics and with these, I do not. 3.0 out of 5 stars Taking some time to break in.
When you first put them on they feel great. The have since caused a few pressure points. They look nice and are well made, but so far comfort has been an issue. If they do break in they'll be worth it. Not there yet though.

These are great boots. Since I usually wear a wide width, I ordered a mens and they fit fine. They are light weight, but provide support. I usually wear orthodics and with these, I do not. I love Chaco sandles and find these provide the same amount of support. The waterproofing keeps my feet dry. One especially nice feature is the laces are flat allowing them to actually stay tied. A lot of other boots have round laces which creates problems with keeping them tied. They seem to be as well made as the sandles. A good value for the money. And they arrived very quickly.

I was going to return the boots because the heel was too wide. The boot fit well, otherwise, and I really liked the light weight, waterproof material and style. My wife suggested using heel inserts. They worked and the boots fit much better. Boots are a little stiff but more use should break them in. If you are looking for a lightweight, waterproof, stylish, hiking boot then this is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, November 21, 2011

These Chacos are great shoes! So comfortable and durable. The soft leather should be sprayed with a protective water resistant solution if they are going to get damp. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Comfortable/Durable, April 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wore this shoe in the desert of Kuwait for a year, as well as on numerous hunting and fishing trips since, and my feet have never been so happy. Initially I was reluctant to go with Chacos becasue they are trendy among the hollywood hikers in Colorado, but I have to say they are right in this case. Out of the box this was the most comfortable outdoor shoe I have ever owned, and they did great at keeping the talc type Kuwaiti sand out of my feet. I would recommend this shoe to anybody who spends a lot of time in unforgiving country, or needs a quiet shoe to stalk elk with a bow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good shoes, but they're NOT just like Chaco sandals, April 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It took me a while to warm up to these shoes. I got them because I'm a HUGE fan of Chaco sandals - I'd live in those if I could. I've taken international vacations and ONLY packed my Chacos. Love 'em.
So when I saw they made boots, I thought that they could cover the half of the year when weather doesn't permit me to wear my Chacos! No such luck. The footbeds do feel pretty good, but not just like the sandals. They seem a little narrow - probably in the "medium" width range, but definitely narrower than the sandals. And for me, there were a few odd pressure points (around the top of the ankle, on the outer side of my foot). These minor spots have eased up and practically disappeared as I've worn the shoes more - the leather has broken in nicely, but I still wouldn't wear them for all-day hikes or real backpacking trips.
The midsole cushioning and outsole are both very firm. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but don't expect these to be nice soft running shoes, or even athletic-type trail walking shoes! The soles feel much more like boots. The rubber on the outsole is quite stiff - on a hard surface, it almost clicks as you walk. It can be quite slippery in cold weather (when the rubber is just a little stiffer than normal). In warmer temperatures, I find the grip to be surprisingly good on rocks and so on, but I still don't trust the grip as much as I do on softer athletic shoes or even my heavier hiking boots.
I haven't worn them extensively in water, but in a few brief "wettings", the waterproof membrane seems effective in keeping my feet dry. They do seem fairly breatheable; my feet don't sweat any more in these than they do in other leather shoes.
The lacing system is excellent compared to most other hiking boots I've tried - these laces seem to tighten easily and evenly down the whole foot, and slip easily into the hooks up the ankle.
They're not bulky at all - they feel almost aerodynamic compared to my standard trail walking shoes, and especially next to my heavy duty hikers. This is apparently due to the relatively narrow width and thinner midsole, but whatever it is, they're nice and trim with no extra bulk.
These shoes do feel quite durable and are apparently well-made (my estimation after a few months of use), and I like them as light-duty work boots or light hiking boots. Overall, though, I think there are better (softer, more comfortable, more purpose-built) shoes out there for most applications. If at all possible, I recommend trying these on (and ideally wearing them around for a little while) before committing to buy them - they're not for everyone. But if you're looking for a light-weight, durable shoe with firm cushioning, this could be a good choice.
