5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shoe!!, June 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Chaco Men's Canyonland Mid Sneaker (Apparel)
These shoes were recommended by a Podiatrist for my plantar fasciitis. I hike with my grandson and Cub Scouts and had always worn running shoes which was ok. I bought the Canyonland Mid because I had never owned a pair of hiking boots. I like these so much I wear them to work where I put in two to three miles almost every day. By the way, the shoes are great for hikes also. Our hikes are usually five miles or less. Chaco has turned out to be a great company. I snagged a shoelace on a thorn on one hike and Chaco sent a pair of replacement laces free. Also, I found out that Chaco is a major supporter of Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics. You won't be sorry you bought these shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aptly named, September 5, 2009

ohobo "Fantm" (Grand Canyon, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
I've lived at the Grand Canyon for 24 years and I do a moderate amount of hiking here. The number one thing I was looking for for was something which would not give me problems with my toenails on the way down. Many people get blood blisters under their toenails and end up losing them, they do come back, but it takes quite a while. I went to the bottom of Grand Canyon, spent two nights, and came back up, wearing the Canyonland Mid. They worked great, partly because I bought a pair which was one size too large, which is usually recommended here. But also they fit snugly around the ankle, and I think that helps. I say they are aptly named because I think they are great when you're out here in canyon country, where it is pretty dry and warm. This is the first time I've rated a product, so maybe a 5-star rating is high, but I can't think of anything wrong with them, for my usage. And I think the term "sneaker" is good also, because that's how comfortable they are for me. I should mention also I was just carrying a small day pack but I do a lot of hiking this way. I doubt there is any product better than this, for what I do. I've been going down the Bright Angel Trail just for about 30 minutes at a time, recently, wearing them, and this seems to be actually alleviating a problem I was having with my left foot. It may be hard to say for sure if these "sneakers" are what did it, but they've been wonderful for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average maybe. You get what you pay for., February 15, 2011
I bought these a year-and-a-half ago and it looks like they have changed slightly. The sole on my boot is the worst thing I've ever walked on--noisy hard plastic with zero grip. It has the exact appearance of the current "grip-tight" or whatever they call it now, but maybe they actually changed it. The pattern is the same. Other than that the boot conforms to your foot after a month or so and becomes quite comfortable to wear. Good laces (important). Workmanship is a little shoddy. Hooks don't seat as well as they should so laces get caught on the edges when you're trying to tie in a hurry (annoying). Upper is starting to tear on left boot by one of the support seams. Water resistance was good for the first year, minor seepage where upper and sole come together but not too much (I treated with vasoline from day one). Now, in the second year, they leak pretty fluently. I got them for $46 so I can't complain too much but I wouldn't buy them again. I'm finally going to quit being such a cheapskate and put out for some qualified light, waterproof hikers. It will be worth the expense to get everything the way I want it. And last a few years to boot.
