5.0 out of 5 stars These are durable, comfortable, and easy to clean, but ya might wanna size down
These sturdy sandals will probably last you for years and years. No kidding. Their business model strives to be eco-friendly and people-friendly--paying employees to ride bikes, get educated, and volunteer--and their shoes and sandals are purposely created to last and last and be repair-able so that resources are preserved.

As to comfort--I'm a barefoot kind...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone
After hearing that Chaco's were pretty much the most comfortable shoes in the entire world I order a pair off of Amazon. After getting them I went for a long walk to break them in, and ended up with blisters all over my feet. By the time I was on my way back home I was almost crying from the pain. Chaco's seem to be perfectly comfortable for most people, however,...

These sturdy sandals will probably last you for years and years. No kidding. Their business model strives to be eco-friendly and people-friendly--paying employees to ride bikes, get educated, and volunteer--and their shoes and sandals are purposely created to last and last and be repair-able so that resources are preserved.

As to comfort--I'm a barefoot kind of gal. I normally chuck shoes as soon as I'm in the door. The fact that I forget to take off my Chacos and leave them on tells you how comfy they are. I have chronic plantar fasciitis and these, though on the hard side in the footbed, nevertheless let my feet move, my toes flex and extend, and don't aggravate my issues.

I also appreciate the wide sizing. Not all their stuff has wide sizes (shame on them!), but these do come in wide and they're great.

Some folks size down one size, but I got my pairs in the regular 10W. They do have a bit of extra space, I like that for toe "bumper" protection. Up to you. I find that buying my real size makes the arch support "hump" be placed where it needs to be for comfort.

Two caveats: 1. these can get stinky. The bottom is rubbery, so not all that breathable (though the foot is mostly exposed, so it's not the kind of stink like closed rubbery shoes. But the sandals are so easy to clean (no fear of messing it up), that I just use an eco-friendly spray cleaner on it every evening and let it dry while I sleep. I get fresh shoes when I wake up. Nice. In a pinch, you could always just spray em with some disinfectant or shoe spray until you can wipe them down. 2. When wet, the Diamond Stealth bottom pattern REALLY REALLY grips. Traction! That means it's great for outdoors, safer, but indoors, a damp sandal bottom will have a suction effect on a smooth floor (ie, linoleum for example). I find this less noticeable in the other sandal bottom pattern.

The way the sandal is constructed, the strap is all one piece, and you learn how to pull it to fit your own foot--so it's customizable for comfort. Easy to put on. Easy to take off. these are my sandals of choice when I head to Pilates, so I can walk fast to class as a warm up and then get them off superfast to do my session.

I really love my Chacos. Though they are costly--I mean, it's 100 bucks!--I bought FOUR pairs, one in red, one in a blue pattern, these black ones, and one in an orange-brown pattern. That way, I have a pair to go with every casual outfit I have.

These aren't sexy or glamourous or dressy. These are just really usefull, strong, comfy everyday sandals--great for shopping, errands, hanging in the garden, going for walks in the rain, picnicking, whatever. When you're dressed easy, these are easy for you, too.

thumbs up.

Mir
UPDATE: I ordered another pair in one size down from my normal 10W (ie. 9W) and I do prefer the fit in the smaller size. So, just a heads up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chaco Z/1, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Chaco Women's Z1 Sandal (Apparel)
These are very comfortable sandals. The size is a bit large on me (I normally wear 7-7.5 shoes and I ordered a 7), so I would recommend rounding down if you are unsure what size to get.

This is the most wonderful sandal. It is especially great for walking. I walked around Disneyland every day for a whole week in these and never experienced any backache or foot problems. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST SANDAL IN THE WORLD!, October 4, 2007
First, I'll start by saying I love Chacos. I got my first pair in the spring of 2003; (I wear sandals year round, I'm not a closed-toe shoe person)I finally wore them out in late August of 2007 when one of them snapped in half from being worn so thin. That was 4 years of year round wear. I did everything from hike( all seasons & conditions), horseback ride, to just hanging around in them. They are my every-day shoes. I was an avid Birkenstock wearer( and I still LOVE them), but Chacos do better in my acyive lifestyle. I just recently purchased my 2nd pair, same style as before, and when these wear out in 4 years I'll be buying another pair just like them.

I have been wearing these sandals nearly every day since I received them. They are extremely comfortable, and when they get dirty I can just chuck them in the wash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sandal., December 2, 2009
This review is from: Chaco Women's Z1 Sandal (Apparel)
I have wide feet with short toes so where a shoe normally tapers its hitting me right on a bone. This sandal has the ability to adjust in every possible way and all the straps are secure without binding. Very comfortable. Good arch support. Nice tread. Perfect design.

I bought these after a friend let me try hers on. I'm not usually a sandal person because my feet usually fall off the sides of normal sandals. I loved that I could adjust everything about the straps, even around the hard to fit part of my foot! They also have a nice arch support.

This is a very comfortable sandal and fits beautifully. I ordered down a size after reading that the sandals tend to run large.

I had another pair of Chaco's before I bought these. They are the ones with the double straps and the extra toe loop. I love those, but find that the toe loop tends to tighten up and by the end of the day my big toe is being choked. I decided to try this kind to see if they would feel more relaxed. I also chose to go for the wide foot bed since I felt that my other pair was a bit too narrow for my foot, even though I don't wear wide shoes in other brands. To compensate for the extra width of the shoe, I decided to go down a size since I had read another review that stated that the shoe seemed much bigger in the wide sizes.
I have to say that it was the PERFECT combination! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pair of shoes. In fact since I bought them in June I have worn a different pair of shoes maybe 6 times total. I wear these every day. All day. For most any occasion. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair. You'll love them.
The insole for these are very ergonomic and they have great arch support. I have been dealing with a lot of pain in my heel from plantar fasciitis and these shoes have been the best for my feet. I can go much longer in the day before I start to feel the discomfort in my heel. And that's compared to wearing other shoes with high quality orthotics in them.
You just can't lose with a pair of Chaco's.
