Only a couple missteps,
By A Customer
This review is from: Chad Brock (Audio CD)
Chad Brock's debut album starts out nicely with the funky honky-tonk groove of "Going The Distance." The second song, "Evangeline," has skilled fiddle work and an appropriate-to-country story of boys remembering a pretty girl who has now gone elsewhere. "You Made A Liar Out Of Me" has pretty pop instrumentals, but the melody definitely has some flaws. "Bingo Bulls-Eye" is the worst song. The lyrics on that one are too simplistic in a bad way, and the instrumentals include boring and generic chords. Sometimes simplistic can be fine if the lyrics are formed in a way that draws emotion out of you, but that doesn't happen on "Bingo Bulls-Eye." "Ordinary Life" has already touched many lives with its lyrics about a man who goes after the big-time, and wants to return to his simple life with his loving family. "If It Were Up To Me" is a pretty fair song that is most clever with its title. "'Til I Fell For You" uses good rodeo comparisons to show the power love has - the good power, not the bad power. "Lightning Does The Work" is a rocker with Native-American undertones in the instrumentals. I love the what the lyrics of it say about getting things done and not just talking about it. "Unbreak My Heart" has a very traditional melody, and also has the clever hook-line that many of those classic country songs have. The last song, "I Wonder Where Love Goes," is introspective, and asks if love takes another form somewhere else after dying. A new idea, and not a silly one. Chad's voice on this album doesn't break new ground vocally, but he will draw you into his music.

Fresh newcomer combines strong voice with strong songs,

This review is from: Chad Brock (Audio CD)
Chad Brock is an interesting blend. Think Collin Raye-meets-John Michael Montgomery. Aside from playing the part of the beefy, rugged cowboy very well, Brock has a solid voice with a respectable range. He is able to carry off hard rockers ("Lighting Does The Work") with a convincing edge, and still come off as a sentimental fool when it's time for the requisite ballads ("Ordinary Life"). Brock could easily sit back and enjoy the ride the way so many other Nashville stars do -- an average effort combined with good looks equals lots of sales. But instead, Brock sings his heart out on each track, making the record a fun listen. The songs are modern made-for-radio country (translation: catchy as hell) with a somewhat traditional feel creeping through. When he plays live, Brock often covers Merle Haggard and Lynyrd Skynyrd. You can feel both those influences on this solid and entertaining debut CD. Buy it now; see him live. Two years later, when there's a huge line and the tickets sell out, you'll wish you had.

Chad is a hot singer. His music reminds me of some the singers of days gone by. I look for his career to go a long way. He targets all ages.

This CD is great! Ordinary Life is really moving its way up the charts, somewhat slow, but that is good! People have a chance to listen to the song and learn to love it due to it making a gradual climb to the top. Evagenline is another song on the CD, it is making it's way to the top also! Just buy it, listen to it, and you'll be glad you did!
