You don't have to be from the Cheseapeake Bay area to appreciate Chadwick the Crab and his friends. They are delightful and your kids will never know these books are educational. Yet, they are. The story of Chadwick teaches us about creatures in and around the bay, what they eat, the dangers they face etc. Help bring up environmentally sensitive kids by reading about Chadwick, Toulouse, etc. Oh, and crabs CAN be cuddly!

This book creates a wonderful opportunity to teach children about the Chesapeake Bay and the wildlife that live there. The story surrounds the reader with local images that will be familiar to anyone in the Chesapeake Bay area and give the reader a connection to the story. These images are also popular tourist attractions and could be used in conjunction with a vacation or school trip to the area; educating children about the Baltimore Aquarium or the United State Naval Academy. The story follows Chadwick as he uses the help of his friends to travel away from his home in the Bay to a new home in the Aquarium where he can be a star and avoid the winter hibernation. This story involves a great problem resolution where Chadwick is unhappy but with the help of his friends is able to fulfill his desire of an adventure.

I love this book and my students loved it too. It's about following your dreams. It's awesome.
