4.0 out of 5 stars Keep This Chain Letter In Circulation [4 Stars], April 11, 2006
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
The first thing that jumps out about this album is the fact that Supastition finally has production that will do his unique flow justice. Supa takes his listeners on a journey through everyday life with lyrics that are heartfelt and earnest. Whether he's asking his ex-girlfriend to take him back or recounting his journey to get signed you'll feel like you're standing right there with him through it all. With help from beatsmiths like Illmind, Nicolay, Jake One, Madwreck, and M-Phazes, the production has more meat for Supa to sink his teeth into this time around. Chain Letters is a nod to the true school while progressive in its attempt to return hip hop to its golden roots. Guests include Little Brother, Nonameko, D Minor, Seven, and Can Tell

Standout Tracks: Ain't Goin' Out (Like That), That Ain't Me, Split Decisions, 100% (My Favorite), Soul Control feat. Little Brother, Appreciation, Rise, A Baby Story feat. Nonameko, Special Treatment, and Don't Stop

4.0 out of 5 stars definitely worth the purchase...if you love hip-hop, and want to hear some incredible samples, you'll love this album!, October 3, 2007
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
GREAT ALBUM! Supastition is such a talented lyricist that basically nobody seems to really know anything about...hes basically backed by his backyard producer M-phazes...and together they come up with some pretty worthwhile music to listen to. The seemingly endless variety of samples and near-flawless production for each track makes this album worth the buy. Supastition's lyricism on top of the M-phazes clean tracks make for a great album. This was a perfect follow-up, solo album to "Deadline"...I would give this a 4.5 if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not superstitious, but..., February 27, 2006
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
This black cat should have many an M.C. afraid to cross his path. Supa is a force to be reckend with and I haven't heard another like him since Chino XL. Sharp with the lyrics and on point with the flows, excellent storytelling based on true life stuff holding back no punches, and He makes the difference in Hip Hop without flaw with the preservation of old school style beats. You almost feel like You were there as things happen when He tells it in verse like in the track "The Baby Song." Talks about how one of the homies loves his ride so much that He loses the value of the people around him including his loved ones. I don't wanna spoil the suprise, You just need to hear and feel it for yourself. Producers ILLmind, M-Phases, Madwreck, Jake 1, and of course, Nicolay bang out the sound sources to create this classic album naturally! Nothing is forced as some solid guest appearences from, few but enough, artists like DMinor, Nonameko (no-yaim-ko), and Can'tell on the vocal hook tip with a-alike Seven and Little Brother on the lyrics tip (and Big Pooh is tight for them internet-haters who know who they are...) Supa has, more than once, proven that He can hold his own on the mic. I have both albums and the EP, "Deadline," and the weakest link of the three was the first because some of the beats were not hittin'. That's all over now and Sup lets it be known on the tightest intro of all intros to date. I can go on reviewing this CD all night, but I'll conclude and say no matter what kind of rap music You listen to, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!!! It's money well spent because I let one of my dawgs check it, and he listens to R&B, crunk and Playa anthem joints. Sold! I'm gone...

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPA!, April 13, 2007
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
I picked this cd up after hearing a single freestyle from a mixtape like 2 years before this dropped and knew I had to have it. Im so pleased w/ this album (and all of supas music) that everytime I listen to it I like it a little more. One of those cds you can just pop in and listen till it's over. I just got deadline in the mail today and it's not even in the same league as this album and still better than most cds Ive listened to this year. You can see how he really strives for greatness and is constantly evolving. A true masterpeice and future classic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Supastition - ur favorite mc's favorite mc!!!, December 26, 2006
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
If you dont know Supastition by now, get familiar, because he is easily in the top 5 mc's out there. This album shows and proves his mic skills over and over throughout each track. This is a must buy for anyone trying to keep that "real hip-hop" alive. You'll have this in ur cd player for a long time after you buy it, trust me. "That's why they hate my face..."

4.0 out of 5 stars (4+HALF) More mc's should be writing CHAIN LETTERS!!, September 28, 2006
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
After getting his previous album "The Deadline" and loving it, this really was a no-brainer for me to pick this up. What i genuinely didnt expect was that he would out-do that. The one thing that constantly improves on each of his albums is the production. I personally thought that the weak point on his debut "7years of bad luck" was the production so when he hooked up with Illmind & M-Phases for "The Deadline" i was very pleased. This time round he's stayed with those 2 amazing beatsmiths and added Jake 1 and the very talented Nicolay. Add that to his own producer Madwreck and you have a roster of killer producers that are guaranteed to give a lyricist of Supa's calibre the perfect platform to rip. And that is exactly what he does, on every last track!!! He also widens his spectrum of topics this time round and goes into detail about relationships, materialistic people, cheating, the state of hiphop and a whole host of others. Tracks like "Don't Stop", "Rise", "That Ain't Me", "Hate My Face" (my favourite), "Aint Going Out", "100%", "Yesterday Everyday", "Nickled Needles" and "Appreciation" are all huge strong anthems where the atate of hiphop and the constant doubters are his influence. And believe me he articulates his sentences with panache and integrity and totally full of emotion everytime. Tracks like "Split Decisions", "Special Treatment", "Baby Story" and both versions of "Soul Control" are much deeper and meaningful. The remaining tracks kinda feel abit like they're fillers and dont stand out BUT they are still better than alotta the tracks in hiphop today so thats saying something. This boy really is something special and as hiphop fans we need to support artists like these. Go cop it a.s.a.p.

Why is real hiphop coming from everywhere except NYC these days. I'm from Brooklyn and I'm really pissed to have to give this cat from North Carolina 5 stars and there is NOTHING out of NYC this year that deserves 5 stars. You will enjoy this cd if you like boom bap it is NOT that crunk stuff. I like it a lot I'm just upset right now.

I dig in the crates so you don't have to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slept On...., November 20, 2005

This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
I actually slept on this album, and the first time I had heard of Supastition was on the "Okay Player" album on the track "Williams" produced by the great Nicolay. This is a solid hip-hop album with dope lyrics and stellar production. North Carolina is seriously on the lap, and I aint talkin about Petey Pablo ! Illmind is 1 of the hottest producers a lot of people have never heard of. Definitely rising stars so put them on your radar. Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars long awaited... does not dissapoint !, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Chain Letters (Audio CD)
been waitin for this release since the Deadline, and all i gotta say is his production team is soooo ill, and his lyrics and delivery are on point as usual... Front to back, there really isn't a bad track on this album... my favorites after listenin through a few times gotta be "Rise"(sick Nicolay beat), "Soul Control" ft. Phonte n Big Pooh, and "Nickeled Needles"... Supa doin it the best in the game these days so do yourselves a favor and cop some real hip hop... this gonna be in my rotation for a long time, also in the runnin for indie album of the yr.. enjoy! Peace
