2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great
I didn't care for this book. The writing was so-so and the plot was silly. Someone needs to explain to Dee Davis the science behind ionizing radiation and what exposure does and does not do to the human body (i.e., exposure alone doesn't make you radioactive). Her lack of research was so evident that it just killed the whole book for me.

Mia Kearney lives in a small town called Cedar Branch, Idaho.
The town is small with only a few residents, but the ones that live there are all like family to Mia.

While working on a art assigment in her basement there is an explosion that kills everyone in town except Mia is the sole survivor.

Mia wakes to find herself in a facility that has guards at the door, and she can't remember what happened to her.

Nick Price, from Homeland Security is sent to talk to Mia. They think that since she is the only survivor she must have set the blast.

But things are not adding up in Nick's mind. Mia remembers nothing and she is horrified to find out all her friends are dead.

Nick thinks there is more to it than the government wanting to study Mia.

Mia finally escapes as Nick is taken off the case.

Should he believe her, or was she involved? He has to have answers.

Nick finds Mia and the two go on an adventure that will keep the reader unable to put the book down.

Very fast paced book, with romance throwed in.

Great Book!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of tension and breathtaking action!, August 24, 2007

This review is from: Chain Reaction (Mass Market Paperback)
Mia Kearney awakes in a lab with no memory only to find out that she is the sole survivor of a nuclear accident. Her small Idaho town was wiped out and now an agent with Homeland Security is questioning how she managed to survive. When the CIA decides they want to take over the investigation, agent Nick Price wonders if there is not more to the story. When he sees Mia flee, he gives Chase and goes on the run with her to try to figure out who was behind the "accident" and whatever else they are trying to cover up. Romance blossoms between the two as they set out to uncover a plot that conspiracy theorists will jump on.

Davis combines plenty of breathtaking action and interesting plot twists to tell a pretty timely story. She holds nothing back - including the townspeople's harrowing and painful last breaths. Great dialog, great action, great chemistry... great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book, June 3, 2007
This review is from: Chain Reaction (Mass Market Paperback)
I had never read a book by Dee Davis and this one was a great book filled with two main characters Mia and Nick you just can't help but route for lots of sexual tension and chemistry and some humor mixed in as well and the background for the story which I won't give away was also refreshing.

I can't wait to read the rest of this authors books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A winner, June 10, 2007
This review is from: Chain Reaction (Mass Market Paperback)
In Cedar Branch, Idaho, her studio being below ground is the only reason artist Mia Kearney survives a nuclear accident. However, the incident left her unconscious. When she awakens she finds Homeland Security agent Nick Price guarding her. He interrogates Mia, who cannot answer his penetrating questions. She realizes she is being incarcerated like an enemy combatant, but manages to escape.

As she flees her jail, Nick is stunned when he is abruptly removed from the investigation, which goes against procedure. He begins to wonder if there is more to this nuclear tragedy than just an accident. He seeks out Mia to enlist her help in learning the truth because he believes that she was allowed to escape so that she can be assassinated as the only "witness' to the meltdown.

This exciting nuclear accident romantic thriller will have readers on the edge of their seats from the opening sequence at Cuppa Joe's restaurant in Cedar Branch until the final confrontation. The story line is driven by the desperation of the lead couple as someone wants them dead just in case she knows the truth behind the incident that killed a small town. Although the conspiracy seems stretched no one will care as Dee Davis delightfully depicts two Davids battling an unknown goliath with seemingly plenty of governmental support.
