Comprehensive,

This review is from: Chain Saw Service Manual (Paperback)
Not necessarily the ideal book for a beginner. But if you have an old chainsaw you picked up at a garage sale (as I did), and know some basics about small engines (what a spark plug is, etc.), this is exactly what you need. Provides specs, tuneup instructions, and other maintenance/repair items. Good basic chainsaw information is provided, as well. But the real value is on the details about the various models.

Fantastic Book,

This book is ideal for a person with mechanical knowledge.
It contains chain saws of many make and models. Even some I never heard of. However most equipment you buy now days do not give any adjustment of any kind to keep your machine running great. Once you get this book, find the model that matches yours. Read the information on it. It well explains adjustments as well as the break down and parts. This is not for just a novist. You do need to understand the workings of mechanics. That said, it is a fantastic book.

Chain Saw Service Manual (Clymer Pro Series CSS10),
By Falcon (Racine, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chain Saw Service Manual (Paperback)
The publication is exactly what I needed. Neither of my saw manufacturers makes a service manual available, and this publication covers them both -- carburetion, CD ignition air gap, plug gap -- right down to the bolt torque requirements, which are extremely critical with die cast parts and housings.

better than nothing...,

Unfortunately I seem to have missed the part about this book only covering chainsaws made through 1998(!!) If you have a chainsaw made in the last 10 years this book isn't for you.

Incomplete models listed - more info requested!,

This review is from: Chain Saw Service Manual (Paperback)
It would be nice if someone that has bought this book would make a complete list of the brands and models covered, here in the reviews.
Because the details section of the listing appears to be of limited length and cuts off at Homelite. I can hardly believe there's nothing on Husqvarna, John Deere, Jonsered, McCulloch, Pioneer, Poulan, Remington, Sachs, or Stihl (and I'm sure there are more beyond 'Ho...' that I don't remember) in this manual. Thanks!

Dated, but good reference,

Yah, it's old info ... luckily for me, I have old saws. This manual covers them, and moreover, unless you *really* need the exact part number or the exact little detail, you can find what you need or something close enough in this book to help you fix your newer saw. If you can't, perhaps you'll wanna go online to ArboristSiteD0Tc0m and ask around anyway. If it's new or odd, you're better off to consult others whether you find things in a book or not. For the everyday stuff, like building a carb or replacing a sprocket, you don't really need the book anyway...your saw shop will sell you the correct parts, and prolly even tell you how to do the job if you're nice about it ... I'm pretty sure this book will show about anyone more stuff about more saws than they're likely to ever need, and that's why this comprehensive listing of a whole bevy of models from basically every manufacturer I've ever heard of gets my vote. Detailed drawings, annotations and commentary all come together to make this a no-frills technical book. I definitely dig it. I detract only for dated material.

Chainsaw Service Manual 10th Edition by Clymer,
By
This review is from: Chain Saw Service Manual (Paperback)
This book is good for those interested in repairing their own chainsaws. It has good information and good illustrations. The book is not written for those who do not have a mechanical aptitude. The book is more a service manual than it is a learning guide. It covers many different manufacturers of chainsaws. This book is an invaluble source of information for those who wish to work on their own saws.

This manual is highly inadequate, with very little useful detail. Other Clymer's manuals I have used have always been very detailed and useful. This one is not worth buying or owning. Don't waste your hard earned money on this product.
