Old school sound without sounding old.,

This review is from: Chained to the Nite (Audio CD)
I first heard about these guys on a music blog on the web that said the c.d. was pretty good. I listened to the audio samples here on Amazon and decided to buy it. It was well worth the money I spent, plus I got the 2 extra songs from c.d. #2. I have been listening to this c.d. for about 6 or 7 months and I have yet to get tired of it. I know some reviewers on Amazon and other sites have said it doesn't sound like Dokken or Queensryche. I never expected it to. I hear bits of influence from many bands when I listen to this. Cauldron doesn't sound exactly like anybody else which is why I like them. If I wanted a carbon copy of Dokken or Queensryche I would have bought them instead.

I graduated HS in 1986 and the '80's metal was my music. It was great to find this band who has brought back that long forgotten sound and style. Cauldron has two CD's out, and Chained to the Nite is their first. I highly recommend buying both CD's from this band if you like the same metal as I do. You won't be sorry!

Another great band paying homage to the classic metal that we all know and love.Nothing technical, nothing flashy, just straight-ahead, mid-tempo, head-banging metal. I love the guitar sound on this album, slightly buzzy/chainsawy - Randy Rhoads rhythm sound comes to mind. For fans of Wolf.

Chained up in METAL!,

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Someone finally slapped a label on the recent revival of adjective-free heavy metal that has been gaining momentum worldwide. Bands that worship at the altar of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are now being classified as the New Wave of Traditional Metal (NWOTM). Even the acronym is old school metal! The trend tag wasn't unexpected, but it is somewhat odd that Canadian band Cauldron, a relative newcomer to the scene, seems to have emerged as the standard bearers of the genre. You'd think it would be Wolf, who has been blazing the trail for nearly a decade, Icarus Witch, or what seems like half the population of Raleigh, NC (Twisted Tower Dire, Widow, Viper et al).Cauldron, which emerged from the ashes of thrash band Goat Horn, may not be the first band to eschew sub-genre trappings and opt for a straight-up heavy metal sound, but there's no denying the fact that they do it well. Chained to the Night is the band's first full-length album (coming after the Into the Cauldron EP), and it's an absolutely fierce slab of uncompromising old school metal. It's a cross between the classic NWOBHM and early Metal Massacre sounds, only with a modern edge and energy. Chained to the Night is all metal guitar hooks, fist-pumping choruses and songs about chains, witches, the night, chains around witches, chains in the night, and possibly witches being chained in or around the night. Bonus points for their cover of Black n' Blue's "Chained Up In Chains!" Songs like "Conjure the Mass," "Midnite Hour" and "Bound to the Stake" are exactly what you need to shake off the endless sub-categorization (progressive/power metal, melodic Swedish death metal, etc.) and get back to the pure unadulterated heavy metal sound that we all fell in love with in the first place. If you've been enjoying the traditional metal revival that has been going on in recent years (and you know I have), you'll definitely want to check out Canada's contribution to the NWOTM. Sew a Cauldron patch on the back of your denim jacket, strap on your spiked wristbands, and crank this one up. Cauldron is bringing back old school heavy metal with a vengeance. Note - Initial CD pressings of Chained to the Nite feature a pair of bonus tracks ("The Striker Strikes" and "Restless"). I was hoping for a video clip, but the bonus tracks are cool additions.

Great CD with good high pitched vocals. This is a good buy for those who like 80s inspired heavy metal. Does not sound dated at all with good production. Stand out track is "Chained up in Chains". Comes with 2nd CD that contains two additonal tracks: "The Striker Strikes" & "Restless"

I bought this CD because of the sticker on it claiming it to be for "fans of Dokken and Queensryche". Nothing could be farther from the truth! They sound nothing like either band. I grew up listening to early Dokken (Tooth and Nail) and Queensryche. CAULDRON doesn't sound anything like them. In fact, they simply stink... Stay away from this disc.
