Book Description

December 23, 2008
What if you were forced to marry someone you barely knew? London, 1864. Any hopes eighteen-year-old Katherine Elizabeth Brady once had are now gone. She's heard the horrible tales about Newgate, the most notorious of all prisons. Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined herself being locked up there...until she was falsely accused of stealing. Now she shares a communal cell with twenty-five other men, women, and children, with no hope of release. After his parents were killed in a fire, young James Patrick Murphy was left to fend for himself. He did his best to work hard and earn his keep, but was caught stealing bread and cheese. That one hungry, desperate act landed him in Newgate. The other prisoners there seem afraid of "Big Red," as some call him. Rumors of his viciousness abound. But one young woman seems to see through to his heart. Then the prisoners are given "the privilege" of being transported to Botany Bay in Australia to finish their servitude and start a new life. But there's a catch to this freedom from the bars of Newgate: all single women must marry before departing for the rugged frontier. And love has nothing to do with it. A compelling story of danger and treachery, love and hope.

I think this book is great! It tells how different people's lives are and how everyone can help out one another. I believe the author really went into great deepth on the feelings these people had in all walks of life. Thank you so much for writing this book. I can't wait to read the next. Lana Stauber

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put the book down!, January 21, 2009
This review is from: Chained to Your Heart (Paperback)
The writer takes you, through her creative writing, to the center of the book. You feel like you are there living the story through some of the characters. This is real life and how each of us struggles to make the right decisions as we seek & wait to hear God daily in our lives. I was sad that the story ended. The author did a nice job in conclusion of the book as well as through the epilogue. This is a true Christian book where the main characters find God, pray & live out God's will for their lives whether be it through trials or joyous times just as we do in our own lives.

1.0 out of 5 stars Super Boring!, November 24, 2009
This book was very dull and uninteresting. There was no development of the romance between the main characters' relationship. I couldn't understand why they "loved," each other since they hardly knew one another. The romance was completely lacking. She chose to go to Australia with a man she barely knew!! The main character's friends were annoying and didn't add anything besides making the main character appear to be a saint. The Christianity in the book was based completely on experience and nothing theological. God speaking to her was extremely hard to believe and left the reader feeling disconnected to the character. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
