This saw is pretty slick. If you want to cut anything bigger than 12" it is much easier with 2 people. My brother and I cut a fallen dead cottonwood >24" in 5 Minutes. You will need to practice to get the right technique at first. If you have sissy hands, you might want gloves until you get calluses if you use this a lot or cut bigger stuff.

48" saw is longer than I need. Really for backpacking 24" would be enough.

FYI this is just a chainsaw blade with ever other tooth turned around.

It cuts a lot fast than using a regular handsaw. I'm glad I got the 48-inch chain instead of a smaller one. This one can cut trees that are pretty large in diameter. The bigger the tree the longer it will take but why not get a good workout while you're exploring the local trails. Main reason I got this was because I run across downed trees on the trails and end up not being able to get past them. The only thing that would make this better is if there was teeth on both sides so you didn't have to mess around with getting the right side to cut. I was a little worried about the handles not being comfortable enough because there's other chains on Amazon that have different kind of handles but these handles are perfect for getting a good grip on the chain. You do have to keep the chain taught in order for it to cut smoothly.

I purchased two of these tools for my brother and father as Christmas gifts. The chains on both, though packages were labeled 48-inch, were much shorter. My brother read similar reviews so perhaps they inadvertently labeled an entire batch of these pocket chain saws incorrectly. At any rate, the shorter chain length makes the tool much less useful, and is not as it was advertised.

Well i read some of the posts that said they got the 24 inch one instead and thought i would take my chances. Well i lost

I ordered the 48" saw, but a 24" saw was delivered. The order information and packaging said 48", but the saw was half its advertised length. Other than not getting what I ordered, it appears to be fine.

Ordered a 48"; received a 24". I wonder how many other people were sent the wrong size, but didn't bother, as I did, to measure it?

We needed to use this on a large tree that was suspended 20 feet in the air on another tree. Our chainsaw would not reach nor did we want to get on a ladder next to an unstable tree. We cut through an 18 inch section of wood in less than 10 minutes. Saved us a lot of money since we did not have to pay for a professional tree removal.

I ordered the 48 inch saw and got a 24 inch saw... too small to cut a tree trunk or large branch. This is not just an isolated shipping mistake because the package is labeled "Chainmate 48 inch..." and inside you get the 24 inch saw. I will now have to contact Amazon but I noticed the price has increased 7 dollars and a refund will not set this right. Will update review when Amazon makes this right...
Update:
Amazon will accept a return at my shipping expense and I can now order another 48 inch saw for over 29 dollars instead of 22 dollars (last weeks price). And, they will probably send another 24 inch saw. I'll just cut my loss and keep the little 24 inch one. Buyer beware.

Haven't tried it yet. Looks like a chain saw blade. Be advised. What the picture shows is what you get. No extra cords, no weighted bag.

So I had the 24" version and LOVE it but I wanted something longer for "two people" action to make things easier and I received the 24" again. DANG IT. so I returned it with no problems at all!!! When it is in stock I will order it again. (this is the reason for 4 out of 5 stars)
