I bought this book for my husband and he really enjoyed it. He wants to learn how to carve things using a chainsaw. I am a little scared but he is so excited!!

Nothing beyond carving process,

This book has lots of information and photos about the actual carving process of three different bears. However, that's about ALL this book contains.
It contains NO information or pictures on: *How to find and select logs *Additional bear poses beyond the three listed *How to paint or finish the bears *How to display the bears *How to sell/market the finished product Also, note that every photo in the step-by-step process is taken from exactly the same position, so some cuts and/or steps are not very visible. That said, there are enough illustrations to make up for this shortcoming. Bottom line: If you want to learn to chainsaw carve a bear, this book is adequate, but I'm hoping for a 2nd edition covering the materials listed above, as well as basic ratios for determining proportions on the bear.

this is a great starter book, but it does leave out some instructions so you need to have experience in chainsaw carvings to complete a project

Jamie's book is solid and thorough. Follow along and make the cuts he suggests and you'll have a bearish-looking carving your first time out. If your bear isn't quite bear-enough on the first try, go again and for certain, your second bear will be.
My first bear followed a different set of instructions and looks like a pig. My second bear followed Jamie's book and sold as soon as the finish was dry. Having carved a fair number of bears (and other things) since, I understand that measurements are not particularly useful: it all depends on the size of the tree / log you're starting with.

This book provides a step-by-step process for carving a bear from a tree stump or large log. It also recommends needed tools, cautions and other useful information. It worked the first time on my 20" diameter, 10 ft high trunk left after our 70 ft balsam toppled in a windstorm at the cabin.
