I really wanted to leave a review about this product. I bought a few rolls of chalkboard contact paper, also from Amazon. I was uncertain if I could use liquid chalk on such a surface given the mixed reviews about chalkboards getting damaged by this product. The contact paper is of course not the same as an actual chalkboard or a surface painted with chalkboard paint, but still I couldn't find anyone willing to tell me if it would work on the contact paper. I even called the company who makes the contact paper...they didn't return my call. Really I didn't want to spend 25+ on markers that wouldn't work or would damage the contact paper. As the instructions state I tested a small area of my chalkboard contact paper. I tested several times waiting longer before erasing the chalk ink each time. It erases like a charm! It comes right off with either a slightly damp rag or windex for a larger erasing job. The only thing I did notice is that when the surface is wet you will see the outline of what you are erasing, when it dries however it is gone. Perhaps over time this may become an issue, but even if it is, the contact paper is cheap enough to replace even if I had to every few years. On the package it states can be used on actual chalkboards, it says this right on the front though per reviews I know this has not worked for many customers. I have not used it on an actual chalkboard or painted chalkboard product so I can't speak to that. Again it does say to test your area first. One really awesome thing I also learned is that it can write on smooth surface fridge fronts and wipes right off. If you have a black smooth front appliance like me, you will really loves these!

These pens will ruin your chalkboard painted wall. You can not get the imprint off. You will have to repaint. And the company agrees that they won't work on chalkboard paint on walls. Too bad they don't warn you on the package of their very expensive markers.

Unless you have a very hard surface like a porcelain on steel board or a manufactured, baked surface, or a semi-gloss painted surface- you will always have that issue. Chalk paint is very porous and not hard so it is something that will need a regular touch up. It's the nature of the material.

When I first told people I wanted a chalkboard door on my new (ridiculously expensive) refrigerator, people thought I was crazy. What would I do about the chalk dust? Didn't I know my kids would grind bits of chalk into the floor? It would be such a mess, etc., etc. *I* knew there had to be a product on market for professional use, and this is it.

These chalk marker work like old-school paint pens - you shake them up, depress the tip to let the ink flow, and then write with them. Very clean, very tidy, no dust, no smearing.

The downside is that they require a damp cloth (I like my microfiber sponge) to remove. This being said, if you have a very porous chalkboard, or one mounted on porous material (wood, particle board, drywall) it isn't ever going to come out. Hence the way-too-small manufacturer's comment at the bottom of a previous poster's comments about a "hard surface". Read the manufacturer's directions carefully and do *not* try and use these unless you're sure you have a compatible chalkboard! Sacrifice a test corner if you're not sure. My chalkboard is fused to a sheet of metal - about as non-porous as you can get. And so far the chalk pens have come off just fine.

I do really like them, but since the chiseled tip breaks down quickly (at least under my kids' hands) and they're fairly expensive for the amount of ink they hold, I can't give them a five star rating. I'm currently considering mounting another magnetic chalkboard panel elsewhere in the house, just for the kids to use, and I'll probably just give them regular chalk to use - it's cheaper and easier to clean. As for me? I'll keep the liquid chalk for myself ;-)

If you make chalk boards for a local business, use nothing else! This product is significantly brighter than chalk. It creates clean lines for a professional appearance. As an unexpected benefit, it does not smudge. We used to have kids run their fingers down our chalkboard to mess it up, now if they ran their finger down it nothing happens. It only comes off with water. Also, I can write with one of these pens in less than half the time that chalk takes. Chalk is a child's toy. These pens mean business!

I was a bit worried that they wouldn't erase from my chalkboard paint walls, so I ordered NEOPlex Chalkboard Spray Cleaner along with it. The cleaner works great to remove the liquid chalk from my walls, and I am very happy with the way they write so clearly!

I use these a lot on the chalkboard at work. Makes for much more variety of pictures I can draw. The downsides are some colors don't flow as well and they don't hold a lot of color.
The trick to not breaking down the tips is when you first shake the pens and have to pump the color to get it to flow into the tip, use your finger or hand which is a soft surface. Makes a big difference.
