You see (between you and me), I think that very few people really know themselves. They never arrive at self-understanding, and hide behind an image of what they think others would prefer. Most of us deal out a phony self. I think that self-observation is essential. I have taught young people, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, and for years have had my students write a faith-journal. I have read every page of these journals. Most of these young people underestimate themselves. They do not believe in their great potential.

This book is Classic Powell. He draws from his own life experience to present, in shorter form, the Challenge of Faith. He cites historic figures through present day personalities in making his points. Anyone wanting to negotiate their own identity development journey as faithful Christians will benefit greatly from reading this wonderful book. Kudos to Father Powell.

This is a great read. Father John Powell is a great priest and writer. It's almost like having a conversation with a very intelligent and holy man. I highly recommend it. It is an easy read and will not take long to go through it. You could even read it in one sitting if you have a couple of hours.
