In The Chamber With Linkin Park,
By "tkheaven" (West New York, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In the Chamber: The String Quartet Tribute to Linkin Park (Audio CD)
Linkin Parkers now have an opportunity to experience their favorite songs on a whole new level of music. Even those who are hard core fans can appreciate a few of the renditions the String Quartet put together. It took me about two plays to get into the cd being as though it's mainly strings plus I subconsiously expected to hear sort of Linkin Park remix (as 'Reanimation' did for 'Hybrid Theory'). There were a few songs I felt the quartet could have put more bass to give the song a little more edge or less accented notes making it simpler and still a very good listen. The rest of the tracks were great to get into. Overall, the String Quartet did a great job in giving us another version of our Linkin Park. I gave it a 4 for a few tracks that are a MUST: Points Of Authority, Cure For The Itch and Somewhere I Belong. Incredible job, especially Cure For The Itch. (I found myself closing my eyes and bobbing my head to these songs...gotta be a good sign, right?)SIDE NOTE: The cd track listing on the back cover for 8. 9. & 10. is actually 8. 'Can't Stop What I'm Hearing Within (Original Composition)' 9. 'Somewhere I Belong' & 10. 'By Myself' on the CD.

A Journey of Strings,

Reading through most of the reviews here I must agree with a fellow reviewer who stated how shallow the music audience is today.A lot of people I know only like one type of music, and immediatley bash all others, and I pity you for being so sheletered. This album is wonderful, it takes the feeling of Linkin Park and blends it into c quartet arrangment that is most appealing. From the gentle sweeps of "In The End" to the anger of "One Step Closer" it's all there. "But it's the same" Of course it's not, it's not Linkin Park, if you want it to be the same, go listen to the original song. A tribute album is about APPRECIATING and giving THANKS for a great artist, it's not meant to immitate. "it's just classical crap", It's obviously not, have you ever tried to play a classical instrument? It's not easy and to do it at this level and make it seem effortless. Considering this particular quartet has about 50 other tribute albums, they must be doing someting right. All in all I love this album, it's great to play when you want to listen to linkin park, but only want background music, or when you're company doesn't like LP. My parents, who either don't like a lot of music (Mom) or are true Jazz fans (Dad), both like this album (and the one I have for COldplay), so it fits everywhere. Enjoy! And remember, the most important thing to remember is that YOU are the only one who can judge, listen to it yourself, and if YOU like it, then that's all that amatters.

Great band, great stuff!,

If you thought LP and straight orchestra wouldn't mix, you were wrong. After buying this CD, I have become addicted to these SQTs. Tom Tally's renditions were delightful in every aspect. And for the late x-mas gift shopper, this is a great buy for the LP fan.

Inexcusably awful,

Unlike the vast majority of dimwits who gave this 3 stars or less, my negative review wasn't spawned from the expectation of actually hearing Chester sing on a clearly marked instrumental record. Because of the large number of reviewers who seemed confused, let me point out that this record has literally nothing to do with Linkin Park. This is a record that was conceived by Tim Emmons and Tom Tally, two string players, who make a living by producing string-only versions of top artists' records. Linkin Park is only one of dozens of bands these guys have butchered. By itself, this seems like a great idea. However, as anyone can discern with a quick listen, there are junior high quartets that give better performances than you will hear on this CD. The intonation is spine-wrenching, the arrangements are flaccid, and the recording is marginally acceptable, probably recorded in someone's apartment. I highly recommend against purchasing this CD. For the diehard LP fan, it will leave you very unsatisfied, and for all others it will simply torture your ears.

Awesome Tribute,

I bought this album, already owning the "A Tribute To Linkin Park" CD (you can read by review on that album also.). I Absoloutley love this CD. It is easy listening and, while not as good as the originals, I think it is a worthy tribute CD (although, I was disappointed that "Numb" was not on it and there was no Piano.). And yes, I know they messed up the order of the last three tracks, but "In The End", "Somewhere I Belong", and "Points Of Authority", more then make up for it - Jay
P.S. Don't Forget To Get Mike Shinoda's Fort Minor CD: "The Rising Tied" CD/DVD [...]

Redefiniton of Linkin Park,
By
This review is from: In the Chamber: The String Quartet Tribute to Linkin Park (Audio CD)
I've thought Linkin Park were an excellent band since the first time I heard "One Step Closer" in the summer of 2000.Because I listen to hard rock,I hated the fact that Top 40 radio discovered them with "In The End" and played their music out in a matter of weeks. But when I browsed through all the string tribute albums, not one of them sounded as perfect as this one.Hearing this album reminds me of why Linkin Park is a great band, and you will realize it too when listening to how perfect these songs sound performed by Linkin Park or by the string quartet. You realize how musically equal the songs are on different levels. The best part of all is the passion that you find in the sound. When you listen to "Pushing Me Away" & "Crawling", you hear Chester's voice in your head, but you also hear the pain of the lyrics being sung through the strings.Songs by bands who are more melodic than LP,like Staind for example, didn't even translate as well as Linkin Park's songs did. This is a spectacular take on Linkin Park's music which tops "Reanimation" in the sense that "In The Chamber" puts a spin on the music that "Reanimation" could never accomplish.Anyone who appreciates Linkin Park,or music as a whole for that matter, would enjoy listening to this album several times over.

A friend of mine at work bought this CD after listening to the intro and intermission on REanimation. Boy were we surprised to hear this CD. It has harsh sounding and highly annoying. We didn't realize that LP was not the producer of the album. We will check more closely on future purchases. Also I do not claim to have perfect pitch, but this seemed way off at times.

This is What Being Embarrassed for Someone Feels Like,

You know that feeling of sympathetic mortification you get when you see someone humiliating themselves? This album does not manage it with the style that sells teen movies, although it's not hard to imagine it being performed by a few members of a teen music camp. One gets the feeling that there is little care for how severely Linkin Park is being butchered (I never thought I'd see myself write that) here. Indeed, this is one in a long series of "String Quartet Tributes," many of which actually satisfy a certain modestly shameful hunger of mine. I LIKE to hear pop music put to the classy slide of strings. Well. Or even with some gems spattered here and there that make it worth the bother. It doesn't even have to be innovative. But this album is none of those things. It's just four instruments playing something very close to musak -- they could've layered the pathetically weak tracks, even, but that apparently was too much bother. I would recommend the tributes to Coldplay or U2 if you would like to see what this series is actually capable of when someone there actually gives half a damn about the original music.

It's better than what i thought.,

I love linkin park, but i'm not really into classical, stringed instrument, except the guitar of course. I have the cd on order and it should be coming soon. But when i sampled it on this website, i was shocked: they actually didn't screw up. The songs sound familiar if your a l.p. fan, so you won't be disappointed. If anything, you'll have a greater respect for violins and stuff. It's ten of thier trax plus can't stop what i'm hearing within, which is an all new track. I love anything that has the sound of l.p., i might even pick up fort minor. In the end, despite what other reviewers say, it's a decent, well-done tribute to a great rock band that is linkin park.
