4.0 out of 5 stars well made unit, July 20, 2010

This review is from: Chamberlain GA200D PowerDrive 1000 Gate Access System (Tools & Home Improvement)
Thinking of getting another one because this unit works so well. I was reluctant to purchase the Chamberland because I was unable to find any feedback on line. I found plenty of negative feedback on the Mighty brand. I figured perhaps there was no feedback for the Chanberland because it worked as it was supposed to. The instructions were simple and well written. It came complete and did not require a battery or any other parts. It has been running daily for the past 90 days without a hitch. So far it has exceeded my expectations. The unit is well made and sturdy. Works well with a large 16 foot gate. The only complaint I have is that Chamberland never sent me the additional remote they promised when I sent in the registration form.

Installed easily on my farm fence. At 250' it still had plenty of juice - measured 27 v. AC, and I don't have awesome electric service either. I am going to try to install an automatic lock on it (the GCLock from GateCrafters). I'll let you know if it works or the whole thing fries. One shortcoming is that there was no installation manual or warning signs for that matter. Plus, the dvd didn't play in my player. A call to Chamberlain indicated that parts were only available through a retailer. Apparently they've changed their diy philosophy on this product. I did manage to download both the manual and the video from the web - artifacts from the diy Chamberlain web site.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Alternative to Not so Mighty Mule, August 5, 2010
This review is from: Chamberlain GA200D PowerDrive 1000 Gate Access System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased two of these openers to be used on a two-sided gate spanning a single driveway. The gate is solid wood and each section is 10 feet long and pushes the 250 pound limit. The opener works very well and the units can share a single button on the provided remotes so the operation is seamless. The one recommendation I will make to users is to program the stopping point on both the open and the close to be slightly before the maximum open or close position. This will allow the gate to expand and contract with changing weather without causing the opener issues. It lost a star because there is no button on the unit to open the gate, this however can be done using any low voltage button (e.g., a doorbell button).

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better unit than the mule type., December 7, 2011

This review is from: Chamberlain GA200D PowerDrive 1000 Gate Access System (Tools & Home Improvement)
Very nice working unit, I feel this will last much longer than mule type I bought last time. The long throw on the mule is a problem, the internal screw mechanism is easily bent. The Chamberlain unit works faster, is nearly silent in operation and engineered much better. Seller was awesome, there was a missing part from the factory and he took care of it right away, I had the part in the mail directly, no charge, no trouble, no "call the manufacturer". I purchased some additional remotes that work with my garage doors(Genie) and the gate, life is good, warm and dry all winter long no getting out to open the gate. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Chamberlain gate operator, August 24, 2011

I recently purchased a Chamberlain GA200D gate operator. It was shipped promptly. The installation instructions in the user guide included a dvd with easy to follow step by step instructions. As promised on the registration card, Chamberlain sent an additional 'free' 3 button remote following on line registration. Chamberlain's customer service and technical support is the best I've ever found. Customer service is USA based and phone inquiries were handled by competent personnel with very short hold times. EMAIL questions were answered within a day and followed up to insure user satisfaction. I experienced a failure in the rf part of the gate operator after two weeks of use. Chamberlains tech support diagnosed the problem over the phone and promptly shipped a replacement electronics board. The gate operator has proven adequate to handle my ten foot wide, wrought iron, hinged gate. I purchased the optional 940D wireless keypad remote and found that it operated fine at a distance of 100 feet from the gate. I feel that the GA200D is adequate for keeping most unwanted visitors from entering your property. I rated it at 4 stars because it is not high security protection for the following reasons:
1. The gate operator arm is attached to the gate with a small diameter, hairpin, spring clip. This clip can be easily removed with a one finger pull, allowing the operator to be lifted off the gate, which then permits the gate to be manually opened.
2. There is no latch to secure the gate in the closed position. The closed position is set by adjusting the point at which the operator stops turning it's screw jack. There is sufficient flexibility to allow an intruder to squeeze through a closed gate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, June 9, 2011

I got the Chamberlain unit to replace a GTO that only lasted about a year and a half. I had a little problem getting it set up, the directions were either a little confusing or I did not read them closely enough. I spent some time trying to get the right Customer Service department but when I did find the right phone number (1-866-826-4943) they were very helpful and took care of my problem. The unit works very well and seems to be well designed. I would recommend this unit highly over the GTO.

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate product and vendor, May 30, 2011

I chose this product because of good reviews and not so great reviews of the Mighty Mule version. It was shipped promptly and was easy to install. We use it as a stock control between pastures and the range of the remote is impressive. It is well made with good customer support from the vendor, Gate Openers Unlimited, purchased through Amazon.
