Occasionally I would forget one of the garage doors open at night. This add-on sensor allows me to monitor the second door. It works perfectly, and I know when I go to bed if a door is open.

I bought the pickup unit with sensor and an extra sensor in one shot. This device gets confused all the time with two sensors, and sometimes the signal does not get picked up at all, from even a few feet away. I've never had a wireless device that was so useless. I think I'll just buy a few roller switches and hardwire a doorbell/LED to them.
Just too bad I waited so long to test this out before I found out how they worked.

I got this product a while back and once set up it worked for about nine months to a year and then for whatever reason, it just stopped working. I tried replacing the battery in the sensor and this didn't work. After resetting and moving the base unit closer to the sensor it appeared to work. However, its required resetting approximately every 3 months from that point on, so go figure.

The website didn't mention how it works and I ordered it based on average good reviews. However, when I received it I immediately decided to return it based on the working mechanism indicated on the package. It would be attached to the surface of garage door. When the door is closed, since its position is vertical, no alarm will be set off. When the door is opened, this gadget will move to a horizontal position as the door moves to the top rail, so the alarm is sent to the main unit. How about if the door is not entirely closed? Say some object is on the floor and blocks the door to close completely, like a piece of wood or a yard tool? Not mention anything else such as signal strength or temperature ranges. I will find something else that can give me an alarm when the door is not completely closed instead of only when the door is completely opened.

One of these came with our garage door opener. Liked it so much and had so many people say what a good idea it was we bought 2 for gifts and are about to buy another one...

Sensors work great, but don't use the double sided tape to mount it. I did and it fell off and I ran over it, sigh. Use screws to mount it. As you install the battery, locate the 2 little holes in back of the sensor cover. Use (2) small screws to mount the sensor back. Then simply snap the front cover on and you are all set.

This item works as advertised. Easy to install. A snap for the monitor to learn the new code. Didn't even get my hands dirty. Now I can monitor two doors.

I bought the original kit which consists of a sensor-transmitter and a remote receiver with warning lights. I needed an additional sensor for the second garage door. Installs in minutes like the original basic kit and the warning light comes on any time that either one of the two garage doors is left open.

This product is so flaky (working, kind of working, not working) that I still have to check if my doors are down -- which completely defeats the purpose. I have already unplugged mine.

If it stops working, change the battery. My unit was probably sitting around in a hot warehouse too long. It worked for a few cycles and then just couldn't pick up a signal from the sending unit, even when six feet away. Receiver plugs in, but the sender, mounted on the garage door, uses a CR2032 battery. Finally the lightbulb went off, I changed the battery, and it has been working fine. Can't speak about the range, because only one wall and ten feet separate the pair.Update a year later: still working fine on that first (replacement) battery. |
