This product was extremely easy to program (took about 5 mins, including reading the instructions), push a few buttons, push one on the opener, and BINGO, it's done! It has been great not needing the car keys to get into the garage from outside.
I can't speak to the longevity of this product, as I just got it about 1 month ago. It appears, however, that the new model only functions for a few seconds after you enter the code, which eliminates the concerns of reviewers of the old model had, that someone could come up right after they walk away and hit a button to open the door. Final note, it is really more of an off-white/cream color. Luckily, that is what I really wanted.

Easy Installation,

The best feature of the Chamberlain keypad is that it requires no additional wiring for installation. Once you program the keypad to your garage door opener, it's ready to attach (2 screws). It took me a couple tries to complete the programming, due to the fact I was not fully depressing the numbers on the keypad when programming the code. I would highly recommend.

Remote is easy to program and works great. Buttons have a good feel, backlite is bright and it uses a standard 9 volt battery.

It DOES work with GENIE Intellicode Openers!,

After trying to program it a dozen times, it wouldn't work with my Genie Opener (circa 2003). Being Sunday, Customer Service consisted of a recording of the instructions, verbatim. So I went to the website and viewed the instructional video... well - I felt dumb. The step I was doing incorrectly was the first step!
1) HOLD both * and # until the lights stop flashing then enter... 2) your 4-digit PIN 3) # 4) opener ID (mine was 6) 5) # 6) press the learn key on the front of the Genie opener (you must hold the Clicker no more than 2 feet away from the Genie) 7) 4-digit PIN 8) 00 Once the lights on the Clicker turn off, key in your code (followed by 0) and the door should open. TIP: I printed an abridged version of these instructions on my P-Touch and stuck them under the battery for future convenience PROS: It works well - The entire keypad lights up - the white color blends in with the trim - comes with a 9-volt battery - easy to install (2 screws) CONS: I gave this 3 stars because the keypad is not alphanumeric (you cannot use a word for your code) - It doesn't have the option of assigning a temporary code, which my previous Genie keypad offered - Instructions were not clear enough - The cover slides off when you open it

Works with 99.9% of garage doors!,

This is the second I've purchased for the second house I've owned and it works great. The price is reasonable and it is somewhat future-proof. Meaning, I could have purchased a Genie specific keypad, but with THIS keypad, I can change garage door openers (which I have) and simply re-program this and it will work with any new garage door opener I may install.
My only real complaints are minor: 1. I wish this had a simple "Enter" key to press instead of the unintuitive "0" key. I have a special way to memorize numbers and basically you have to remember that the 5th digit is always a zero. 2. No 'Temporary' code for you to give to the electrician or plumber or whomever, like I could with my Genie keypad. Changing pins is simple enough, but you have to remember to change it back (or what you changed it to), with the Genie, you can always use your personal pin to override anything. 3. The cover is not the best design, when pushing the cover up, sometimes it sticks, so you put more force on it and it comes flying off. I solved this by putting a screw at the top of its path, so it doesn't come flying off. Not elegant appearing, but it works. The Genie has a hinge which works great. In summary: If this had a 'temporary' code, an 'Enter' key, and a hinged/flip-up cover, this would be 5 stars. But the fact it works and it works with 99.9% of all garage doors, well, it gets the job done.

** ATTENTION SEARS/CRAFTSMAN OWNERS WITH A RED/ORANGE "SMART LEARN BUTTON" **
Don't give up when the instructions don't work. I almost returned the product when I read another review on here that suggested trying the other instruction set. I had to use the instructions for the GREEN button Sears / Craftsman opener before it worked. Quirky but, in the end, not a big deal. Another small annoyance is the sliding door is VERY stiff. No big deal.

Programming Clicker,
By Chuck (Marysville WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chamberlain KLIK2U Clicker Keypad (Electronics)
Programming KLIK2U was aggravating because of a feature that is not on the packaging or in the instructions.
I am using mine with a Chamberlain PD212DM opener and after the unit light blinked indicating the PIN had been accepted I tried the code. The door opened after pressing the first digit, stopped by pushing another digit and I found it would operate just like a remote - no PIN required. After getting aggravated, instead of smashing the clicker, I put it down and tried again later - it now required the PIN followed by zero to operate the door. While the door was running any key would stop/start it. Now the unit needs the PIN followed by zero after the keypad goes dark. It could be a feature of the opener - but the issue is the same, since they are made by the same company and there is no mention in either set of instructions. I'll give the Clicker a 5 as a key-less entry, but the instructions get a 2 for being incomplete. It is a neat feature to be able to use any key to stop your door after the code is entered, however if that feature was in the instructions it would have saved me an hour troubleshooting a non existent problem. Yes I would recommend this unit

Beware of Insulated Building Applications,

I researched this product before buying and decided that it was the best for my application. I saw the admonition about not working on buildings that were insulated or garage doors that were insulated. Did not pay heed. I found that the remote works well with the exception of the insulation issue. I moved the remote to a location that was not insulated and it works well there. Also the cover is difficult to slide. Needs to be redesigned. Would buy this product again taking what I know into consideration.

I have tried three different remote keypads, and this was the only one that I was able to use with my old Sears Garage Door opener (circa 1986).
The things i would improve about this clicker are: - Make a better-designed cover. As previous reviewers mentioned, it slides up instead of flipping up, and it is less convenient to open. - The keypad itself is very simplistic - has the same keys as are on an old telephone: number plus * and #. The 0 key acts as the "open" or "close" button after you enter the pin code. Not a major pain, just outdated and makes you remember that zero actually operates the opener. - The holes for the installation screws are in not-so-convenient places and are hard to reach, especially if you don't want to use a regular thin screwdriver, but try to use power tools. Again, not a major flaw, just annoyance. The performance of the keypad is quite good though. Out of the two keypads that I returned, one could only open the door if the PIN code keys were pressed very slowly and if the keypad itself was within about a foot from the receiver (who designed this thing?) The other one could not be programmed to open the door at all.

A Snap To Install,

Had the product installed in minutes. I have a champerlain garage door opener so maybe that made it easy.
Some reviews complained about the door being hard to slide up to gain access to the keypad. I sprayed a little silicone spray on the outer cover before sliding it over the keypad. Works like a charm. |
