Beware these must have been farmed out to China for production as they have significantly less range than what was on the market as "The Reporter" just a year or more ago. Having owned several reporters and always being pleased we were disappointed when a set of batteries corroded a unit. We bought a replacement package and were shocked that the effective range could no longer work where we had the original system set up. This was approx 300' and now they cannot reach 100'!!! We bought an additional sensor and it to cannot achieve over 100'. The sensors have been downgraded somehow as I've set it up to work with either the old or new base station and the range stinks with either. I understand that advertised ranges are a pipe dream (1200' for this unit) but there is no reason a replacement unit should be of inferior quality to the original.

The Reporter System is wonderful. With the additional sensor, we get double warning when someone arrives. We have time to checkout who it is with our exterior video camera before they exit the vehicle. It is like having a garage door opener for relatives. The only problem we have is the occaisional bird, cat, or raccoon setting it off. If you can't see your driveway from inside the house, this is what to get.

I bought this product from Amazon a few months ago and love it. It's one of those products that you really didn't know how you lived before you bought it. My family gives this same example with 'caller ID'.We have a long drive way and sometimes I wasn't aware the service people or just a stranger was outside the house without me knowing until I was startled. It works well but not perfect. I would say it works 90% perfect - sometimes people get by without me knowing and like the other reviewer it does seem to go off a lot during the night but I know I got raccoons and rabbits that roam the area. I agree that if I had 2 of them it would probably near 100% accuracy if I heard both beeps in a timely matter verifing a car coming down the driveway. I might have errored in setting up because of my wooded location and proximity to neighbors - I sometimes get extra beeps when their cars leave their driveway or the lawn guys cut there lawn. But I gave this item 5 stars because it does give you a simple battery powered warning that works really well for a cheap price!! I actually buy these now for house warming gifts and nobody has said anything negative about one to date.

I dreaded the set up, but was completely surprised. Most such critters you have to go thru all sorts of stuff to program them- this couldn't have been easier. The little DIP switches that some have complained about- get a grip, Sparky... either that or put on your reading glasses. easy to switch and operate. The worst thing about them is the limited swivel of the ball & socket mount system- hard to redirect very much. No big deal. I find the volume of the alarm just fine- if you want it louder you can easily wire in another circuit for a remote alarm or dialer or... anything. If you want- buy two base station units and place one where you can't hear the other. Too loud? An adjustment would be nice, but I really don't see making it any quieter than it is. Like someone said, put a pice of tape over the speaker if that's bothering you. I find it just right- put it in the bedroom. if it goes off, I'll hear it... but my wife sleeps right through it. Bless her. This is an inexpensive solution.

I have a work truck full of expensive tools, prime target for the drug addicts in my neighborhood. Living on a corner house its very visable. Several times my small air compressor had been lifted out of the truck till the chain caught and it was left hanging over the side bed. I set up the reporter and a few days later right before dark it went off, I grabbed my unloaded pellet gun which looks very real with a scope. A white punk jumped ito his buddies car and u cud see the extreme fear on all their faces as I pointed this weapon at them, they left the scene with tires screeching, I thought they wer going to wreck going around the corner. That was several years ago and I have added a few cameras and another reporter as back up, but no more attempts to grab any of my tools. Its also nice to know when the UPS or Fed X or mail has arrived. I do hav false alarms when the wind blows my tarp but its never failed to warn me wen somone has enterd my driveway.

The alarm works great... I've had mine for over three years. The recent order was for two additional transmitters (sensors). I have the transmitter hid 8 feet up in a tree approximately 700 feet from the receiver. I do get false-alarms from raccoons and other small animals. It is a hassle to replace the batteries, requiring the removal of four small Phillips screws but since the first batteries lasted almost three years, why worry! I do suggest replacing the Phillips screws with regular hex-head screws.

Reporter Wireless Alert System,

We have these sensors mounted on at the entrance of our driveway, on our shed, and at the back of our property. This is such a great, inexpensive way to secure your home, and be alerted when someone is on your property. Each sensor is set to buzz either 1, 2 or 3 times, so we know whether someone has just pulled into the driveway, or is at the back of our property. They are easy to set up and blend into the outdoors. Mount easily on a tree.

We have four of these sensors around our property and love them. We've had none of the issues other people have reported and we've had our for almost a year. We have one on our driveway to tell us when guests arrive and when the mailman is here. The others protect the sides and back of the house. We even gave these as gifts to family members and they love them too. Only a couple of times do they report them going off without anyone being present. These are a great and inexpensive item for piece of mind.

I bought this sensor with the trust it would work 900 ft. from base.It did not work 600 I moved it to 400 then 200 ft. and it did not work. there was nothing blocking from sensor to base but a window and when I got the sensor in the house it worked .(that was about 30 ft)

We have had this alert system for over three years and it works great on our driveway. We live in a salt water environment, which is tough on electrical systems, but the Chamberlain has held up well and the battery life is incredible. We have the usual problem with small animals and bushes in a strong wind, but overall a good system. I especially like the one-hour "time-out" feature, where the receiver stops buzzing for one hour, but then comes back online automatically. I use this when a pesky cat decides to play in the driveway or a windstorm keeps the bushes moving. The alert system we had before this one did not have that feature and I kept forgetting to turn it back on after a big storm.
