5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous
This is a really nice book. I bought it because I speak portugues with my daughter all the time so she can learn to be fluent in 2 languages. Also .... since she is just about to turn 2 and it is almost summer, I wanted her to become more at ease with the idea of swimming.

When I read this book too her she becomes so excited. She laughs and giggles everytime...

3.0 out of 5 stars short, cute bilingual book for babies
There is not a whole lot to this book, but I like it. The story and pictures are very simple, but for a 6 to 24 month old baby, I think they're fine. This book probably would not retain the interest of a child beyond the age of two. The book has a total of approximately seven sentences in French, and seven similar sentences in English (I do not think the translations...

This review is from: Chameleon Swims (English-Portuguese) (Chameleon series) (Board book)

She laughs and giggles everytime she sees the illustrations on certain pages. The illustrations are very colorful and her attention is glued to the pages while we read. She loves to imitate the motions of the Chameleon and Salamander.

I highly recommend this book... especially if your little one has a bit of concern about water. Another book to check out is Stella, Star of the Sea!!!! (all Stella books are great!)

There is not a whole lot to this book, but I like it. The story and pictures are very simple, but for a 6 to 24 month old baby, I think they're fine. This book probably would not retain the interest of a child beyond the age of two. The book has a total of approximately seven sentences in French, and seven similar sentences in English (I do not think the translations are exact). Every page shows the Chameleon and his salamander friend in the water, moving forward, or backward, or twirling, etc. Like I said, the story is very simple. The pictures all look similar. But I really like the cheerful, yet mellow shades of blue and green that are used, I like that the story is given in both languages, and the boardbook is a nice size for little hands.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Translation!, August 5, 2009

This review is from: Chameleon Swims (English-Portuguese) (Chameleon series) (Board book)
I am a native Portuguese speaker and I bought this for my daughter so I could read in Portuguese to her. The translation is just wrong in some parts of the text. It seems something that came out of a automatic translator. It's a cute book, but if you plan to read in Portuguese, I wouldn't buy it. Milet Publishing should check their translation better before publishing a book like this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very very bad translation!!!!, August 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book to start a Turkish book collection. 1st page I read is way off translation! Not even close. I cannot believe this! On the 1st page this is what it says in Turkish; One day Chameleon said: "How would be nice to swim!" Lizard says " all you have to do is try" & in English it says; "can you teach me to swim?" asks Chameleon. "Of course" says salamander. You see how they are off? Not even the translation the action even is bad in this book. What a waste of money!!! I am so disappointed. People who doesn't know the language or doesn't know what the author is trying to say, then DO NOT translate! Just very angry!

3.0 out of 5 stars Spelling Mistakes, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found several spelling errors in the Persian text. In one case the word for Chameleon is spelled wrong - the main character. And in other cases it looks as if the publisher used Arabic analogues for letters instead of the Persian equivalent. I'm not sure, I don't know Arabic. But you can see this on the cover of the book: at the end of the title where it says "mi konad" mi has two dots underneath it, which I think is normal for Arabic, but incorrect for Persian. This is persistent through the book's 10-or-so pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Italian -English translation, June 27, 2008
This review is from: Chameleon Swims (English-Portuguese) (Chameleon series) (Board book)
Chameleon Races is very bright and colorful for children. It's one of my son's favorite English-Italian books because you learn about the lizards helping each other so they can all finish together. the lizard names are easy to pronounce since the spelling is close to the English version. Defenitely a cool book, will look for more in the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad translation, kind of dumb story, June 5, 2009

I think this is more for Portugal Portuguese and the story is kind of stupid.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, March 27, 2009
I love the concept, and the effort. But the choice of a chameleon, not a prominent creature in South Asian culture, is a bit puzzling. Add to that the slightly stilted translation - as if run through google translator, rather than something more conversational and appropriate for children.
