4.0 out of 5 stars What's a Girl Like You Doing In a Book Like This?, January 31, 2001
By
D. Helfrey (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Chameleon (Paperback)
Not for the squeamish and definitely not for the puritanical, Chameleon is chock full of the innovative and outlandish sketches by this master of modern (ie post-Alien) character design. This book is devoted completely to Nirasawa's female characters including his famous Ninas, ranging from the surreal to the grotesque. Doe-eyed, enormously endowed, sexually charged without being obscene (well, to some of us at least), Nirasawa shows off scores of cyborgs and monsteresses, each one bolder, more spontaneous, more bizarre than the last, and packed with more humor and paradox than the work of any Western character designer that I can think of. If you're a student or simply a fan of concept character design, Nirasawa's work belongs on your bookshelf along with your Frazettas, Barlowes and Gigers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chameleon Artbook., June 16, 2006
By
Victor (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chameleon (Paperback)

Well, speaking from my own personal opinion, I really like the art, but what really sold this book to me was the design, the fact that his characters had a unique human creature theme. I feel this artbook would of been even BETTER if it was NOT sexually charged(Uncovered Chests). The strong design alone would have been solid enough to sell this book. But other than that I like it alot.

The book contains 132 pages of themed female human creatures/subjects of: Zombies, Werewolf, Bat, Angel, Mosquito, valentine, april fools and other themed females. ( Contains Two pages of Devilman Action Figure concept work, such as Miko, Psycho Genie, Devilman lady, and Silene. No Devilman though just the females.)
(Concept of Franken Steela, Dokuro Nina Dolono, Magnuts Nina Dolono, and much, much more.)
