When I think of Champagne & Butterflies, I think of lace, softness and elegance. Champagne makes an entrance once you open the bottle, and it's a must have at any upscale party. This review is from: Champagne & Butterflies: Maybe some girls do have it all. . . (Paperback)
In Champagne & Butterflies by SJ Foster, sisters, Kyla and Kimari Fontaine, are living it up in college at Penn State. These sisters could not be any more different than night and day. Kyla is the more laid back and focused on her studies. Kimari is all about being in the spotlight and soaking up the attention given to her as a Fontaine sister.

Kyla is surprised by the sudden arrival of Troy, a former classmate. She never thought she would fall for him but after their night of great passion she has done just that. With his promise to be with her long term, Kyla lets her guard down and decides to pursue a relationship. It is over sooner than it began. Left broken hearted she turns to a current classmate, Vince, for companionship. He treats her with nothing but respect, but he does not light the fire inside her like Troy did. For some reason, she cannot seem to get over Troy. Will she destroy what she has with Vince for the passion she had with Troy?

Kimari is the feisty "living my life like it's golden" sister. She has no use for men. She wants to just do her time in school and get out into the real world and be FAMOUS. That was the plan until she met, Sean, a transferring football player with first-round draft pick promise. Could this be her way into the scene?

Foster brings an amusing story. The sisters have had a wonderful and privileged life. But love does not care how much money you have. They still have to go through the hard times. I enjoyed reading the book and had fun going through the dealings with the Fontaine Sisters. I recommend this for a quick and entertaining read.

This review is from: Champagne & Butterflies: Maybe some girls do have it all. . . (Paperback)
Kyla and Kimari Fontaine are beautiful, young, vibrant sisters who live a lavish lifestyle by wearing expensive clothes and driving expensive cars. Labeled the most popular girls at Penn State, they spent a lot of their time partying and dating the popular young college men before they graduate and take on the world.

Kyla, the conservative and calm sister dreams of following in the footsteps of her powerful father. She's in a beautiful relationship with Vince, a soon to be doctor, but when an old love strolls back into her life, Kyla quickly discovers the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Kimari is the complete opposite of her sister, Kyla. She's carefree, a wild child; life of the party. Wherever there's a party you can bet Kimari will be there and that is where she met Sean, a promising professional football player. One to never exclusively date anyone, she finds herself falling in love with him while building a name for herself in the celebrity world.

CHAMPAGNE & BUTTERFLIES is a delightful novel about love and maturity. The reader witnesses Kyla and Kimari's comfortable lives invaded by challenges mature them, as they get ready to spread their wings and take on the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Humorous and Lighthearted Read, December 7, 2010
This review is from: Champagne & Butterflies: Maybe some girls do have it all. . . (Paperback)
When I think of Champagne & Butterflies, I think of lace, softness and elegance. Champagne makes an entrance once you open the bottle, and it's a must have at any upscale party. Butterflies are beautiful free spirits, but most importantly, they are day fliers. Meet Kimari Fontaine. She's champagne, she loves to party and her bubbly quick wit is often a turn on for men. However, Kimari wants to be a star and, quite honestly, she is not looking for a relationship. Her focus at 21 years of age is to finish school so that she can get busy being a star.

Her older sister Kyla on the other hand is the resident butterfly. She's beautiful and very serious about her studies at Penn State. Not quite the night owl as her sister Kimari, Kyla makes sure her studies come first. But a part of Kyla is on hold. After one night of passion and a promise, Kyla is holding out for the person she believes is the man of her dreams.

Both sisters find that life at college is nothing what either of them thought it would be. Kimari's dreams of stardom are challenged when she meets football draftee Sean Korrell. Is it true that Kimari is giving up her dream of being famous to settle down with Sean, or will she find a way to have her cake and eat it too?

Wondering what becomes of a broken heart; Kyla licks her wounds inflicted by Troy and begins to physically move forward. She finds solace in a classmate name Vince. He's respectful, gentle and kind. All of that is well and good, but Vince isn't the one who makes her heart dance. That one night of passion plays over and over in Kyla's minds. Can Vince fix her broken heart, or will he be just a strip of masking tape?

Champagne & Butterflies has several grammatical, wrong tense and punctuation errors. It's unfortunate because this book could've received a higher rating than what I'm giving it. I have reviewed several books in 2010 and the editing leaves much to be desired. I enjoyed reading about the Fontaine sisters and all that their money afforded them. Champagne & Butterflies is a great book for teens or anyone interested in a humorous and lighthearted read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Growing Pains, October 24, 2010
This review is from: Champagne & Butterflies: Maybe some girls do have it all. . . (Paperback)
In `Champagne & Butterflies' readers are introduced to the Fontaine sisters - Kyla, the older, smarter sister, and Kimari, the younger, partying sister. Young, black and privileged, Kyla and Kimari are both in their last year at Penn State and ready to take on the world.

Kimari finds herself intrigued by Sean, a newcomer to Penn. He's a football player with NFL written all over him. With her thirst for the limelight and his skills, she's certain that this may be a win/win. Never having been in a serious relationship prior, Kimari is shocked as she realizes that the time the two share has become important to her. When her own stock begins to rise, Kimari will have to learn to juggle. Is she capable of putting others first?

Kyla stumbles over a broken heart right into the possibility of someone new. Vince is safe, kind and they have great conversations. But it still doesn't stop her feelings for Troy from seeping through. With plans for their future, Kyla is shocked when the first chance she gets she's reconnecting with Troy. While throwing herself into project after project, Kyla can no longer deny that the relationship with Troy is dated. Can she master the nerves to see if there is still a chance for her and Vince?

I did not LOVE `Champagne & Butterflies' by S.J. Foster. The story is in desperate need of an editor as the wrong word, tense, spelling and punctuation is used throughout the story. You know it's bad when curse words are even misspelled! In my opinion, the author's obvious need to make the story pretentious is the very thing that ruins the charming appeal. Say what you will, but to be compared to the Hilton sisters is not a compliment. Even with that said, I didn't hate the book either. The sisters' closeness and the way they balance one another out and how, although the family is abundantly rich, they have a good home base, is notable.

A fun, cute novel that was full of great fashion and plenty of girl drama. Also - great romance which I always love to read in the midst. I've read it twice. Great book!

Not usually a 'chick lit' reader but I must admit, I had fun with this book. Kimari was a girl after my own heart - shoot from the hip! I found her hilarious. I do recommend!
