Coooomo??? Palmieri en Boogaloo???,
By
This review is from: Champagne (Audio CD)
When Eddie's La Perfecta put out a boogaloo record everybody thought they had just fallen prey to the latest fad. How wrong!!! This is the best, baddest and hardest swinging boogaloo record that you can put your hands on! And is much more than that... With the addition of Chocolate Armenteros on trumpet, Israel Lopez "Cachao" on bass and Cheo Feliciano singing "Ay que Rico" and "Busca lo tuyo" La Perfecta expands and blows everyone away! This is another of Eddie's classics. "Cinturita" is in my opinion the best boogaloo ever recorded. Listen to it and you'll agree with me. Add to that Arsenio Rodriguez' "Si las nenas me dejan" with Barry Rogers playing the tres and with Chocolate's amazing trumpet and you get the perfect blend of the new and the traditional.

Palmieri Boogaloo!!!,

Great album from the days of good salsa music. Here you have Cheo Feliciano (of Joe Cuba Sexttet fame) and Ismael Quintana sharing the vocal duties, while Eddie & Co. blow the house down.
A couple of boogaloos (Ay Que Rico, Cinturita, Palo de Mango), with some guaguanco (Busca Lo Tuyo and Yo No Engaño A Las Nenas) and a throw-away twist (African Twist). This one also has a really cool cover. Get it for the boogaloo and guaguanco, skip the twist. You will really dig it!!

Not a classic or a masterpiece but a CD worth getting.,

Because it's big hit was the "African Twist" boogaloo, many people failed to realize just how good this album is. While not as well-known, the ultra-hot "Busca Lo Tuyo", "Cinturita" and "Ay, Que Rico" are the real reasons for getting this classic CD. Interstingly enough, Eddie Palmieri always said that despite the "African Twist"'s having been a major crossover hit for him (it apparently DID get some airplay on R&B/Soul music stations at the time) he most definitely did NOT approve of the Boogaloo style--something which, apparently, his brother Charlie also felt the same way about. While not as riveting as most of his other Tico albums, "Champagne" is a near-classic from Eddie Palmieri's vast catalog. Enjoy!
