Book Description

June 15, 1997
In this text, great emphasis is placed on studying the offensive techniques and defensive tactics of the great masters of the art in the 20th century. A rigorous, successful regimen for training and achieving optimum physical & mental conditioning is a natural complement to boxing strategy. The prevention of injuries, too, is outlined.

The method of instruction in this book has been utilized in many high schools, colleges and universities for over four decades by the author, who is generally recognized as one of the country's leading boxing deans.

The methods work from the perspective of safety, on the one hand, and effectiveness on the other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps the beginner tremendously!, December 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Champions' Boxing Guide (Mass Market Paperback)
I take a boxing class at my gym, but I wanted to get a bit more involved with the sport. I bought this book and found that I could "self-teach" myself some boxing moves and training regimen which were not covered in my gym class. The photographs were easy to follow as were the written instructions. Very helpful book for the beginner and I'm sure for most levels.

complete guide to frustration. this book is far too simplified as a display to fundamental stance and punching techniques. i would recommend "the boxers start-up".

2.0 out of 5 stars Less than expected, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Champions' Boxing Guide (Mass Market Paperback)
The editorial reviews led me to believe that this book would have a wealth of information on technique and tactics, with examples of how they were applied by boxing greats. Instead, the information was very basic.
