Hey, you could do worse...,

I saw it on the shelf at Blockbuster, and being a fan of Ken Shamrock, I figured it's worth my $3 for grins. The director has a charming knack for filling the lulls in action with images of nudity. In fact, of the entire female cast, I can think of only one woman who did not bare her breats at some point in the movie. (Brito's headset-wearing assistant) Plus you get to see Shamrock one-handing an M-16 and using a hand grenade to open a padlock. What could be finer? Two stars because the movie didn't totally suck.

In this movie Ken Shamrock was the best! I hope soon he can make his return to WWF to show off all the wonderful acting he can do, not to mention fighting too.

Average B-Grade movie,

For all you martial arts movie fans, this movie isn't too bad but of course it isn't made to take too seriously either. Louis Mandylor usually does an ok job as an actor or martial artist and Danny Trejo is generally liked as a villian or even sometimes as a good guy because he has a certain charisma about him. However, Ken's fight scenes could've been chereographed better so it was a bit of a let down knowing that it was Ken's first and only movie so far when he could've done so much better with the on screen fight scenes.
The acting is ok but as usual in a B-Grade martial arts movie, there is no serious acting involved. Louis Mandylor's fight scenes make him look like a try-hard Bruce Lee. Danny Trejo doesn't have a fight scene in this movie but is probably the most serious actor in the whole film. The storyline is good but has been done to death. I'll give this 3 stars because Champion's was watchable considering the budget on this movie.

I saw this on cable, and liked it. I am a WWF fan, and watched it because of Shamrock. Anyone who likes tournament-style fighting should check this out.

Shamrock's first film "Champions",

Ken Shamrock of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and now with the WWF is in this. Louis Mandylor who is on the CBS show "Martial Law" is also in it. There's a lot of great fight scenes. It's cool that the actors are real fighters doing their own fighting instead of just stunt men. For this kind of movie it's surprisingly good and well written.

Kool Keith CAMEO!!,

This review is from: Champions (DVD)
Champions has a brief cameo by Kool Keith approx. 30 minutes into the movie. His cameo is amusing and lasts about 90 seconds. No rapping but he does quote his own lyrics from "Poppa Large". If you're not a huge Kool Keith fan then you can probably give this movie a pass.

dissapointing,

About 1 half of the fights in this movie are good. Ken shamrock fans will be dissappointed to know that shamrock was stuck with the bad ones. other fights are fast clever well choreographed and a bit of fun. The plot is pretty bad though. Most of the movie is just meant to psych you up for a fight that dosn't happen. The sex has been metioned time and again but I feel it neccesary to expand on it. One of the female fighters in the fighting competition realised that she was way over her head and became frightened. The first fighter to listen got to sleep with her within minutes of their meeting. This almost makes sense because she is so frightened and vulnerable. However the other female fighter who is strong and masculine and sure she is going to win very suddenly jumps out of charicter and tells somone that she is afraid and also and sleeps with him because he is the first person to lend an ear. This movie is worth it for the good parts and a few neat lines but dont expect to make a new favorite out of it.

Shamrock in a movie.,

Ken Shamrock of the WWF and UFC is in this. Louis Mandylor from "Martial Law" is in it, too. Decent fight scenes through out. It's cool that both Shamrock and Mandylor do their own fighting instead of being doubled. It's surprisingly good and well written.

Champions is one of the most sick martial art movies I have seen, and full of hype in many ways. The film is made with some decent looking quailty to the eye, and there are a lot of good looking fighters. Unfortunately, the fights stink and the good guy and morals seem to be buried throughout the film, with so much sickness revolved around the bad guy, Max (Danny Trejo) who is in charge of the underground illegal fights. This is nothing new to the world of martial art movies, and I don't mind seeing a twisted villain, but everthing unmoral seems to revolve around this guy, and it gets a little annoying along with his stupid laughs.
The story is nothing more than good guy Will Rockman (Louis Mandylor) getting lured back into the world of fighting due to the death of his brother in the ring, to a muscle powerhouse named The King (Ken Shamrock) who is heavily under the influence of Max. The rest of the movie seems to revolve around Max and all his illegal glory, twistedness, and sickness. Lots of language and pointless nudity. Even the so called love scenes only appear to happen just to show some skin. The fights are full of hype in this movie too. The cage scenes with spectators look great, and there are a lot of heavy cut fighters. It all gets you psyched up for a big let down. Most of the fights are either too short or unimaginative. The final fight between Rockman and the King was a joke - they literally were just rolling around on the floor. Then there is the one fighter from "The Bible belt" who screams hallelujia while killing his opponent. Some may find that offensive, as did I. I hate to get personal with these movies, after all, they are just movies. But occasionaly, lines must be drawn. Champions is not the worst movie ever made, and it does have some good qualities such as Ken Shamrock and a decent actor in Mandylor. But be prepared for more focus on people who dwell in bad morals and get off on it.

WORST....MOVIE.......EVER!!!,

This movie was so bad it was funny. There were so many inconsistenys. Like the guy who dies in one scene and reappears in the gym later. The fact that the bad guy makes a half billion, but can't afford to hire minimum wage security guards. The pointless nudity. The way all the villians laugh at ever thing... What the Heck is do dang funny? The main guy is like some kind of chessy Costas Manalo impresonator who does kung fu. Did the producers of this movie even watch the UFC. Shamrack was the one guy in the whole film to keep his hands up during a fight scene. Not only that but they had some major BS fight scenes in this movie. Shamrock and Rockford were the only ones with any idea about grappling. (No wonder they were champs). Going back to the half billion. I don't even thing the UFC makes that much. How are we to believe he could clear that? Well that Aside it was really cool to see Shamrock in a movie. I found he mannarisms humorus at times. The scene in which he and Rockford enter a formal ball in matching suits then begin to circle around giving each other the evil eye until Shamrock just shurgs as if to say "what?" was hilarious. The one punch finisher was funny too, considering ever body lifts their hands after he knocks them out. The blind folded death match was cool, cheesy and humorous. Since it proved how ineffective movie fighting is. Basically Shamrock stodd there with his hands up while the guy kicked his arms... Throw a punch for cripes sake! Still I'm HUGE(!) Shamrock fan, and I watched this movie solely for him. I respect the chops.
