5.0 out of 5 stars Championship Chili, It Really Is
CHAMPIONSHIP CHILI is one of ten chili books I refer to when I want to make chili differently than the two recipes I usually use. We have chili a lot in our house and both my Dad and my Mama have their favorite ways of cooking it. I grew up with their recipes and I have documented them in one of my "Amazon So You'd Like to Guides" and I hope you take a look at it. Both...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very small book
This is a cute book but I should have checked the size more carefully - it is very small!

Both recipes are delicious, but when you've had them as often as I've had 'em, you sort of yearn for something a bit different. So, once a week, usually on Saturdays, I break out these ten books and search for a chili recipe I either haven't tried, or one I haven't made in a long time. Of course, like all cooks, I fudge a bit with the ingredients, but not all that much. I like to stick pretty close to the recipes, at least the first few times I make it, so I can get an idea of what the writer/recipe maker had intended.

And let me tell you, you'd be surprised at the subtleties there are in a chili recipe. As they say, no two chile recipes were created equal, but the recipes in Championship Chili have never let me down. I've got a lot of chili books, have tried a lot of recipes over the years, but the recipes here, like the recipes in my other nine fave books, have been consistently good. You can't go wrong with CHAMPIONSHIP CHILI.

The book gives a great history to Chili cookoffs. It also has great recepies although they all don't tell the whole story of the recepies. I have tried several and haven't won with any of them yet. Yes I consider myself a chili head and I am still looking for that perfect recepie. Thought this book would help. Probably will if I conbine several recepies together. Very easy book to read. Really enjoyed it.

Chock full of winning recipes, the chapter by chili judge Bill Renfro on how to win competitions alone is worth the purchase price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not All That, November 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Championship Chili: Top Cookoff Winning Recipes (Plastic Comb)
We purchased this to help us out with a Chili Cookoff but when it came in it was very small about the size of the purse size Bible but not as thick. Also the holes were punched through some of the words or measurements. I would have not purchased this had I known it was going to be so cheap and the recipes were not all that either. Most of the recipes required things that I was unable to find and some of the things it called for were just way to expensive. I would go with something else that concentrated on Chili besides this book.

Really couldn't get very excited about this "Booklet"
Didn't feel like there was real substance to it....
Would not spend my money to purchase it if I had it in
hand to look at first.

Most of the recipes are from the International Chili Society website, which are available for free. They are the winner's recipes, but do you think the winner's divulge their secret ingredients? That extra something is what makes it a winner.
