Excellent introduction to all forms of Omaha,
By desertrider (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Championship Omaha (Paperback)
This book helped me understand the basic strategy behind Omaha, and was very useful in improving my play. One notable feature is it covers all forms of Omaha - High/Low 8 or better, High only, and pot-limit. Reading about the different variations inspired me to try Omaha High only instead of my usual game [Omaha High/Low 8 or better], and it turned out to be fun and a nice change of pace. The co-authors are both world champions and it shows in their advice and suggestions.

Experienced players, this book will help refine your skills,
By umd1998 (Pittsburgh, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Championship Omaha (Paperback)
This book is perfect for the experienced poker players who want to refine their skills. Not recommended for beginners.
Take it from multiple-pro-tournament winners T.J. Cloutier and Tom McEvoy: Starting hand selection and flop reading are the two most important skills to develop for becoming a good Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo Eight-or-Better player. They give you lots of example hands and flops, and explain what to avoid ("danglers") and what to seek out ("Acey-deucey"). A little jargony, but the detailed information as well as Cloutier's hilarious old-school stories make up for that. It really helped me understand the various incarnations of Omaha and gave me a fighting chance against my buddies on poker night!

Helpful for beginner and intermediate,

Very good starting hand coverage and how to play afterward. The problem with the book is it's not very orginized. Lots of examples and why plays were made.
It's a good book for your poker library but should not be the ONLY book.

Good pointers,
By Nick Lava (Memphis, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Championship Omaha (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading the book and got some good pointers. The section with advice on how to play certain hands depending on the format of the game (hi-low split, high-only, pot-limit or no-limit) is especially good. Also some good post-flop tips. The only negative I had was having references to a different format in the chapters for a particular format. For example, in the chapter on hi-low, saying you would play a certain hand in hi-low, but not in pot-limit. In other words, although good advice is given, I would prefer staying on the subject being addressed.

A Rare Find,
By
This review is from: Championship Omaha (Paperback)
There is very little information available about the games of Omaha and Omaha high-low-split-eight-or-better (O8 for short) so this book is a rare find. The content is very straightforward and to the point, covering different forms of Omaha well. But it is not just a dry reference book, it was very entertaining. Which is good, it helps to keep you interested, focused and learning. I recommend this book to anyone looking to learn the game, or even just to improve their game.

I recommend it.,

I really like this book. I guess I should have given it a higher rating but I thought it has a few problems. Others may not be as well served by the book as I.
This is a good book with solid advice. The organization of the material within the chapters could be better but I don't really know how that exactly I would improve it. The way the material was assembled probably made putting the book together a challenge for the editor. It is not a basic how to or a beginner's book on how to play Omaha. The book is not meant to teach you how to play Omaha. The book gives good advice as it discusses Omaha by variation. If you already play Omaha then I would recommend it. The antidotal stories are a lot of fun. It is a good read. It was nice to read about Kenny Smith. I knew him from Chess Digest he was quite a guy.
