More like 4 1/2 stars...., October 24, 2008
This review is from: A Chance to Dream (Triple Countess) (Paperback)
Orlando Garland, Earl of Blyth, is determined to find a companion for his sister, Perdita. Lady Perdita was injured in a riding accident and has refused to walk ever since, despite the fact that both of her broken legs have healed. Orlando knows that Perdita can be difficult but something about "Charlotte Lambert" sparks his interest despite her drab attire. Little does he know that "Charlotte" is merely a façade, hiding Violetta Palagio, better known as the infamous La Perla Perfetta. Violetta's disguise is a good one, but will she be willing to risk it all for love? Orlando would be ruined if it was known just who Violetta truly is....
Lynne Connolly never ceases to amaze me with her skill at crafting beautiful, heart-wrenching stories. A CHANCE TO DREAM takes an old theme and infuses new life into it as the well respected Lord Blyth falls head over heels in love with Violetta, the daughter of a notorious courtesan. However, this story is so much more powerful than that!
As in the first book, LAST CHANCE, MY LOVE, Lynne Connolly paints a disturbingly vivid portrait of the minimal opportunities available to women. When the story of Violetta's mother unfolds, it is hard not to feel such sympathy for all that she has endured and all that she has risked for the sake of her child. Even more interesting are the various relationships and how society has shaped these relationships. Lynne Connolly brilliantly shows just how important appearances were in society in the 1700s.
A CHANCE TO DREAM is the second book in Lynne Connolly's Triple Countess series but can easily be read as a stand alone. There are a few moments that overlap between the two books and it is interesting to see the scenes unfold from a different character. A CHANCE TO DREAM is yet another winner from Lynne Connolly!

Great Book, February 13, 2009
This review is from: A Chance to Dream (Triple Countess) (Paperback)
If you want a well written story told with historicaly acurate detail this is for you. The basic story isn't all that new, sort of the virgin in the brothel, but Connoly creates full characters that are likable and creates realistic situations for them. WHile this is part of a series you could probably read this or the first Last Chance My Love in any order, while the third should be read after this!
