It's a really bad day. Ally dated the wrong guy, and now she's been fired from her job as a librarian (who's ever been fired from being a librarian anyway?). Her car slipped out of gear and crashed into a very new-looking BMW (she's got a high deductible). And to top it all off, her landlady's evicting her because the building has been sold.
At last a letter comes from Ally's cousin Lucy. Despite her gray hair, Lucy didn't let her senior citizen status stop her from a mountain bike accident, in which she broke her ankle and hip, so she wants Ally to manage her resort while she heals.
The quite, unassuming Ally would never be able to manage a resort in Wyoming. The new Ally, determined to stop helping everyone else and take care of herself for a change, is up for the challenge. With less than a hundred dollars, no job and no car, she has nothing to loose. It's time to seek out adventure, to jump in with feet and live. When T.J. Chance picks her up at the airport, Ally decides she handle this hunky, sexy man as well.
Chance doesn't want a city girl dogging his steps when he's got a fire to clean up after at the resort. He doesn't need this slip of a thing in his way, getting lost on trails or going headfirst over mountain bikes. He especially doesn't need the attraction they share. He likes his freedom and the ability to nurture his wanderlust.
When opposites clash, a CHANCE ENCOUNTER changes their lives forever. Jill Shalvis' scrumptious hero provides enough heat to warm the coldest winter night. And Ally's attitudes about her sister's "emergency" phone call is a hoot! Although the conflict is light and easily resolved, CHANCE ENCOUNTER is a warm and appealing romance, coming Highly recommended.

Chance Encounter by Jill Shalvis
Harlequin Temptation # 822 - March 2001
Book # 3 in the Men of Chance trilogy

Ally's always been the one to lean on in her family. Everyone could count on her. Now suddenly without a job, her apartment building sold, and her boyfriend in jail, Ally realizes just what a wuss she's been. So when her cousin Lucy offers her the job of managing her resort while she recouperates in traction from a nasty leg break, Ally runs off to the wilds of Wyoming to learn to grasp life fully and have some adventure. T.J. Chance has always lived his life on the edge. From the age of 17 he's been on his own, participating in extreme sports around the world. Which makes him the best mountain manager for Lucy's resort. When Ally shows up to help out, Chance groans that she's just a city girl that he has to babysit. Chance doesn't bargain for Ally's determination to learn it all and her uncanny ability to twist him up in knots.

This was a fun, sexy read. Ally proves to herself that she's far from the wuss and push over that she thought she was. She could say no to her family and have her own adventures. Chance learns that living life to the extreme had taught him to lock up his heart, and that he wasn't very brave at all if he couldn't risk his heart. These two have a chemistry that you'll just love to read, and some pretty hot love scenes. There's one in the woods involving a tree that comes to mind. Ms. Shalvis has never disappointed this reader and I'm glad I read about her Man of Chance.

Jill Shalvis never disappoints. Chance Encounter is delightful--a quiet, unassuming heroine who grows and matures with every scene, a yummy hero who I'd LOVE to bump into on some mountain trail. Lots of fun secondary characters and hot sexy scenes. Chance Encounter is a great way to spend an afternoon!
