Entertaining Cast, Fun Read,
By
This review is from: A Chance Encounter (Hardcover)
Lord Humphrey Dewesbury's parents and godparents made an alliance when his godparents bore a girl. Lord Humphrey was to marry her when he turned 25. He saw no way out of his furture betrothal to the demanding and irritating Augusta Ratcliffe until he sent Miss Joan Chadwick into a ditch. He finds a way to escape Miss Ratchiffe and she accepts considering her futrure prospects of supporting herself when her father died, leaving her an orphan.
His parents are hosting a house party for the future couple, for Lord Humphrey and Augusta Ratcliffe, but only to read that their son has chosen a different bride. The cast is delightful, everyone is enraged with Lord Humphrey and Miss Chadwick. There were some funny scenes, like their first dining experience with all the house guests. Its pretty clean romance but I felt the end was a little rushed. Buck knows the Regency period quite well. |
