Solid Mann,
By
This review is from: Chance Rm) (Audio CD)
The 1980 release "chance" finds Mann with a new set of musicians backing him in the studio. Chris Thompson only sings on three of the tracks, but alas, this is Mann, he pulls it off with aplomb. Nine quality tracks are offered with standouts being 'Lies (through the 80's)', 'For You' (a Springsteen tune), and 'Stranded'. Thats just my opinion for the moment because I really like "Hello, I am your heart' and 'No guarantee'. As usual Mann's keyboards are phenomenal as is the production. Manfred's ability as an arranger as well as keyboardist shines again on this release. Another in a string of high quality Earth Band efforts.

Best of the Manfred Mann Albumns,
By Todd Reeves (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida United States) - See all my reviews

Mafred Mann was known for taking a bad Bruce Springstein song , improving it musically and ... tada .. making it a hit. With this albumn he did more than that. He made a whole albumn of songs worth listening to. When it came out, I had originally bought it for.."For You" (The B. Springstein song remake/improvement. Listen to the original and wonder why they bothered). I was excited to find I liked every song on here for one reason or another. A very unique and creative work that's fun to listen to. It doesn't date itself as some music does. Sounds as fresh today as it did when it was released.

Stranded in Iowa,

Manfred Mann is one of the most influential but lesser known groups in rock. This album is a keeper for the song "Stranded" alone. It sampled and rapped before most samplers and rappers were born.

Decent Early 80's Progressive Power Rock,

Studio savvy album that boasts a memorable Bruce Springsteen cover, "For You" (more popularly known as "I Came For You"). Technically perfect and sonically flawless, although it lacks commercial appeal, and thus is mainly for Mann Fanns.

This is a fantastic album from Manfred Mann! If you are looking for a starting point to Manfred's music, then this is it. There is not a bad track on this album. I bought this album on vinyl back in 1983 during my senior year of high school and have been a Manfred fan ever since. I recently picked up CHANCE on CD and I still love it after all these years. So what are you waiting for??? GET HOOKED!!! (Then go back and get some of his other great albums)

Far Better than the one hit known for,

Many people think of "Blinded By The Light" When you mention Manfred Mann.....Boy are they missing the best CD recorded by these folks. From begining to end its unique style of music appeals to us tired of carbor copy music. Country has become assembly line music & the rock of the 90's just leaves you flat. The first time I heard this album was on album .....that tells you how lasting of an impression this work has left on me. I lost it in a move & searched for 15 years to find it. Fully expecting it to have been a teen age thing. I put it in & was hooked again. My wife had never heard of it & loves it . I rank it right upthere with "Bat OUt Of Hell" Both original & Timeless.

I first heard this album on cassette in 1981. I haven't forgotten it since. Every song is terrific!'Lies thru the 80's', 'The Heat is On','Adolescent Dream','I Came For You','Stranded'....technically flawless, great rock... this is the best album ever made by Manfred Mann. One of the best rock albums I've ever heard in my life.

Terrific,

This is one of the best albums made in the rock era. The highlight for me has always been the stunning rendition of "For You", a song that made no impression on me at all as done by Bruce Springsteen. An essential recording for anyone who appreciates thought along with their rock and roll. I have listened to it hundreds of times, and have never tired of it.

Had the pleasure of working in radio when this first came out (1980-81). Our Music Director let us play several cuts off the LP (No such thing as CD's then!), and became somewhat hooked on 'For You', 'Lies(through the 80's)', 'On the Run' and a few more. Those songs have haunted me for years (in a good way), yet couldn't find it for years...FINALLY, it's available again and i'm adding it to my 'wish list' for this Christmas.
