Chances Are Cybill Shepherd, Robert Downey, Jr., Ryan O'Neal, and Mary Stuart Masterson discover that life and love in the hereafter can present quite a predicament in Chances Are, the irresistible romantic comedy of two lifetimes. Cybill Shepherd stars as Corinne Jeffries, a beautiful young woman whose picture-perfect marriage comes to a shattering halt when her husband Louie dies unexpectedly. Fortunately, Louie gets a second shot at life when he agrees to be "recycled" back to earth as the newborn Alex Finch (Robert Downey, Jr.). But fate crosses Alex's path twenty-three years later when he meets Corinne's daughter Miranda (Mary Stuart Masterson), and is suddenly flooded with a wealth of memories that all belong to Louie! Now, as Alex's former existence slowly comes to life, he must confront a wife who thinks he's dead, a daughter who could be his girlfriend and a best friend (Ryan O'Neal) who's in love with Corinne. From Dirty Dancing director Emile Ardolino comes this heartwarming comedy that gives romance an unforgettable second chance. Only You An irresistibly romantic comedy from the director of Moonstruck, Only You stars Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey, Jr. as lovers destined to meet and fall in love. Faith Corvatch (Tomei) asks her Ouija board and a carnival gypsy the name of the man she will marry and receives the same answer: Damon Bradley. But when Damon Bradley never shows, the grown Faith decides to marry an earnest podiatrist. Just 10 days before the wedding, Faith's fiance receives a message from a high school alum - Damon Bradley. On a wing and a prayer, Faith flies to Italy with her friend (the hilarious Bonnie Hunt) in search of Damon. What she finds is "the funniest and loveliest romantic comedy since Sleepless in Seattle. See it with someone you love, or would you love to fall in love with!" (Joe Leydon, Houston Post).

One of the best things about this movie was the beautiful setting. It was filmed in Venice, and there were some seriously magnificent shots. It made me wish I could just pick up and go there for a weekend, like Faith and Kate did.
The movie begins with Faith as a girl, playing with a Ouiji board. She asks who her soulmate is, and it gives her the name Damon Bradley. All her life, she waits to find him, but is unsuccessful. Marisa Tomei does an excellent job portraying the naive dreamer, Faith. When a phone call turns out to be a lead on discovering her soulmate, Faith and Kate fly to Venice, hoping to find him...ten days before Faith is supposed to marry the wrong man. In Venice, Faith runs into Peter Wright *literally* who chases her down to return her shoe. The moment she bumps into him, he falls in love with her! Seeing it as his only opportunity to get to know her, Peter (played by Robert Downey Jr.) pretends to be Damon.
I won't spoil the ending, but I will say this movie really made me smile. It's a great chick flick for those of us who love romance movies.

OK, the script may be somewhat cheesy - it is lighthearted, but the actors are utterly delightful and humorous, and the scenery is breathtaking.

Marisa Tomei plays Faith, a young woman whose brother played a prank upon her when they were teenagers and paid a fortune-teller to tell her that she would get married to the main by the name of Damon Bradley. This worked like a hypnotic suggestion - it stuck in her mind. She was just about to get married to someone, and while she is fixing her wedding gown, when the phone rings and a friend of her husband to be presents himself as Damon Bradley. This triggers the words of the fortuneteller and off the chase begins to at least find out who this man is before she commits an error of getting married to the wrong guy.

She only manages to find out that Damon Bradley is at the airport en route to Italy. There is no time to be wasted and without packing anything, dressed in her wedding gown, off she goes lest she'd miss the man of her life. Bonnie Hunt is absolutely priceless in her supporting role - as a best friend, she, too, drops everything and decided to accompany her smitten friend on a wild chase through Italy. That wasn't such a hard decision to make since her own marriage was on the rocks.

While the actors are wonderful in their roles, it is this wild chase through Italy and the scenery that gives the movie special charm and appeal. Some places are simply more conducive to romance than others - they feed your heart and soul with beauty, love, inspiration and romance.

It's here in Italy that Robert Downey, Jr.

Who could not love a romantic comedy that takes place in Italy? Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr have very obvious chemistry, and are well matched in this movie. The multiple locations in Italy were breathtaking, and an excellent backdrop.

Norman Jewison created this warm and airy ode to love, giving it both the beauty and fragrance of a flower cart on the cobbled streets of Italy. The scenery will take your breath away and the story make you smile in this light romantic comedy.

The always sweet and engaging Marisa Tomei is Faith, on the verge of marriage when a phone call from her fiance's friend will stop her dead in her tracks, simply because his name is Damon Bradley. A game played when she was a child and a Gypsy fortune teller at a carnival in her teens told her the man she would love and marry would be named, Damon Bradley.

Bonnie Hunt shines as Faith's sister-in-law and best friend, who takes off to Venice with her in search of her destiny, written in the stars. When they discover Damon Bradley has left the hotel he called from, the search will go from Venice to Rome, and on to the lovely Italian coast, as Norman Jewison gives us a gorgeous view of romantic Italy.

Robert Downey Jr. is at his most charming as Damon Bradley, who Faith meets by chance, or perhaps fate, and falls in love with. Faith will discover, however, that destiny has a few twists and turns in store for her, in this truly delightful violin concerto to love.

This film will work its magic on you if you enjoy a light romantic comedy with a 1950's feel, and will surely become one of your favorites if you are seeing it for the first time. Those who enjoy films like "Roman Holiday" and "Three Coins in the Fountain" will welcome this romantic postcard from beautiful Italy with open arms and grateful hearts.

Marisa Tomei gives a performance both vibrant and full of magic. This refreshing and wonderful film for romantics is widely available in various VHS and DVD editions. Don't let destiny, or this film, pass you by.

If you love Italian culture, and the Italian landscape this is a must own film. Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr. and Bonnie Hunt give good performances as usual.

This has been one of my favorite movies for years. The story line is not going win any awards but somehow that does not matter. The characters are warm and seem like people that we have all met before. And the scenery, ahh, is any place on earth as beautiful as Italy? Not in my opinion.

The gist of the movie is that a young woman (Marisa Tomei) travels through Italy looking for a man with the "right name" that she believes she is suppose to marry because a fortune teller told her so when she was a young girl. Her brother's wife (Bonnie Hunt) travels with her to Italy. While looking for the man with the "right name", they run into Robert Downey Jr. who lies about being the man with the "right name" to keep her from leaving Rome. When Downey tells Tomei he isn't Mr. Right, the chaos continues as he sets how to prove to her that Mr. Right, isn't right for her.

The movie is filmed throughout Italy. It begins in Venice, moves through the Italian countryside (which appears to be Tuscany), then to Rome, and finally to the beautiful Amalfi Coast and the lovely little town of Positano. Watching this movie reminds me of my beloved Italy every time. I have seen this movie at least a dozen times and never get tired of watching it again.

The Italian character Giovanni is so reminiscent of the Italian men that I have met in my life. The scene particularly amused me where the waiter is asking if Bonnie Hunt's character was upset that her husband was having an affair because it "was with her best friend or her sister.
