A Captivating Concert,

This is a wonderful 90 minute tape featuring Johnny Mathis in concert. The orchestra is incredible, Mathis' music and voice are extraordinary. Having just seen Mathis in Las Vegas this past November, this VHS tape brilliantly captures the magic of a live performance and more. There are personal commentaries by Mathis about his songs, edited into segments of the concert. This is one tape that won't just "sit on the shelf."

Excellent Representation of a Live Mathis Concert,
By I. Gross Georg "imgeorg" (Edmond, Oklahoma USA) - See all my reviews

I have attended 6 Johnny Mathis concerts since 1989, from Carnegie Hall to Oklahoma City, to Dallas Texas. This particular video is a perfect representation of a typical show. Thankfully, it dispenses with the comedy break you are likely to find at a real show, but the live shows are pretty much the same way today as they are on this video recorded in 1990. Buy this video, and you can consider yourself having been to a Johnny Mathis concert without buying an expensive ticket!

Mathis fans will love this video. It contains his classics like Misty, Twelth of Never, Chances Are, Maria, etc., but it also has some personal inteviews with John and some film clips from the Ed Sullivan show. The set is beautiful, Mathis is beautiful, and the music is beyond compare. END

Mathis Magic,

This review is from: Chances Are [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is an absolute must for Mathis fans. He sounds and looks terrific. While watching the tape, I am totally mesmerized. Lots of traditional Mathis music such as Misty,Twelth of Never, Maria. I have watched it about 5 times since I purchased, and enjoy just as much each time. I have seen him in concert 7 times, and this tape captures it all. Pure Mathis Magic! END

Being unable to attend a concert of any kind, I welcomed the chance to buy this video being how I LOVE Johnny Mathis. I was totally amazed that a concert could be so good. The concert itself was put together very well and Johnny was even better. God, I love that man!!!

A dream come true,
By A Customer
This review is from: Chances Are [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I waited 35 years to make that dream a reality.I started to love de Mathis's music while my parents listened to him. When I arrived to America the first artist that I saw was Johnny M. in live at the Broward Center or Performing Art at Ford Lauderdale in Florida.I bought that video at that time and I have seen it more that twenty time. I am very happy to have it and I advice everybody to buy it.

Johnny Mathis and his guests are at their best. He not only sings the Mathis magical favorities like "Twelve of Never," "Chances Are," "It's not for me to Say," among others. But, he is at his best doing songs like "Brazil" and a medley from "West Side Story." This video is a must for Mathis fans. I wish he would make more of this calibur.

Johnny is in his middle years here and his voice has mellowed. On a tv interview he said he regretted not being able to easily reach the high notes now, but I find his richer lower register very sexy. The variety in this performance is wonderful. He does samba rhythms, gospel written by Duke Ellington, love songs with Larry Gatlin and a song "I Said No' which is unexpectedly funny and shows his real personality. Very beautiful set decoration and good sound recording make it a treasure for any Mathis fan.
I'd prefer dvd but could only find it in this vhs version.
