5.0 out of 5 stars Vivid characters draw the reader into Haas's world, August 20, 1997

This review is from: The Chandler heritage (Hardcover)
In this book, Ben Haas creates a stunning portrait of a Southern mill town in the early 1900's and the family that owns it. He paints his characters alive and vibrant and undeniably real. In accomplishing this, he doesn't focus on one main character. Instead, he follows the struggles and experiences of all of the characters, describing each in a way that brings the reader to a full and poignant comprehension of the characters' motives and personal trials. This leads the reader to a sympathetic, yet almost frightening, understanding of the slightly twisted Southern values of the time

A nicely written story of an intergenerational textile empire strikingly similar to Springs Mills and the flamboyant characters who built their lives and businesses in the 20th century.
