This book is not a detailed account of the rise and reign of Chandragupta. Rather it is the presentation of the most salient features of Chandragupta's empire after examination of varied accounts of what had happened at the time. Buddhist, Jain and Hindu works of the time, Chanakya's Arthashastra as well as the account left behind by Megasthene provide basis for this book. For the scope it intends to cover, the book does justice. However the book could have been much more. Megasthene's work alone provides fascinating detail into Chandragta's empire and can make an equally fascinating read.
