Large numbers make it easy to read. With the slot type hangers makes it easy to empty for checking the next rainfall.

It's inexpensive, no moving parts, easy to read. Just stick into the ground, and rainfall or sprinkler coverage is measured.

Easy to Read, But Short-Lived,

Gave a clear reading from a distance, but after a couple of years, this plastic gauge has yellowed to the extent it is utterly unreadable, even up close. Cheap enough to replace, but I'll look for a glass one.

The best feature is it's simplicity and the ease of seeing the rain level. It's tapered design and plastic costruction should even allow it to survive a freezing spell if you forget to empty the witer before it gets cold at night.12/26/08 UPDATE: Well, it snowed, then rained and then got very cold (10 degrees). I had forgotten to empty it and it froze and broke! But it is still a great product and I just orederd another. UPDATE 10/3/2010: I still like this product! It survived the winter since I took it inside before the weather got below freezing and put it back out in the spring.

What can you say about a $5.00 object? Quickly stated, the pluses are: inexpensive, easy to read and install, it was one of the few that had a 5" capacity (most only went up to 4" and in South Florida we frequently get more rainfall than that), and it's one of the most low-tech tools I have, which is kind of fun. Negatives: I thought the back was made of metal, but it's plastic; the blue background is starting to fade after less than 2 months.

Well, since I will be purchasing my third, I guess I like it. I just really need to remember to empty it if it is going to drop below freezing. They keep cracking. Guess I should just put it away during the winter. I really like how simple this product is, though. Guess that's why I'm buying another one.

I know its hard to get excited about a rain gauge, but this one is really cool. As it fills with water, the water magnifies the reading. We can see the rain totals from our kitchen window onto our deck without going outside. My only gripe is, if its mounted with the screws instead of put into the ground, it's a bit of a pain to empty. By the way, screws are not included. Otherwise, the best gauge I've had.

Large markings make it easy to read from a distance. But make sure to take it inside before winter hits. Cold weather will crack it, as it did mine.

Good product - Just The Right Size,

Easy to read. Easy to clean at the end of the season. I like the screw holes to be able to mount it if I want (I keep it in the ground). Good value. The blue color is not that vivid, and has faded to a softer color after one year.
