Accurate, simple cooking,
This review is from: Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 036168 Wireless Cooking and Barbeque Thermometer with Pager (Lawn & Patio)
Purchased item from another website, but Amazon shipping and customer service is always great so have no fear buying from Amazon.Thermometer unit has kitchen timer and temp sensing. Temp probe helped me deliver the best BBQ chicken I have ever grilled, perfectly cooked. Cooked NY steak the next night, perfect medium. Pager unit works well everywhere in my house and yard (~5500 sq feet lot). Love this thing and will be buying another for family!

Bake the probe in the oven to fix it!,

I got this product during a Woot promotion and was very happy with it for about a year until it started reporting the wrong temperature, such as telling me that my kitchen was 135 degrees Fahrenheit (it is not). Apparently, the probe and its metal braid cable cannot be submerged, which I frequently do during cooking and when cleaning up afterward. Googling for a way to re-calibrate my unit, I found out that this is a common problem with this style of thermometer (not just this model), and that when it happens, it can be fixed!Just put the probe in the oven at 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes to reset it to perfect working condition. This will evaporate off any water that is shorting out the probe from the inside. It works great again! No need to buy a new probe or a whole new thermometer.

Same "HH" problem as everyone else reports. Do not buy.,
This review is from: Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 036168 Wireless Cooking and Barbeque Thermometer with Pager (Lawn & Patio)
I actually purchased this product off of Woot.com. It worked fine a couple times in the broiler, but since then it only reads "HH." Do not purchase this product.

Waste of money.,

Bought mine at Wal-Mart for $19.99. Used it one time to grill steaks in my Big Green Egg, and it started reading "HH" a few minutes into the process. Only reads "HH" ever since.

Piece of trash,
This review is from: Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 036168 Wireless Cooking and Barbeque Thermometer with Pager (Lawn & Patio)
I have purchased this POS not only once, but twice. Both times, I used it once, and it stopped working with "HH" showing on the monitor, basically indicating too high a temp. In both cases, the grill was not over 350 degrees, and I never crimped the cable in any way. I would never purchase this product again. I was hoping that the first failure was just a fluke.FYI, I purchased both at Wal-Mart as well.

Works fine at first use. Broke down after that. A truly waste of money.

The probe is not of the best quality,
This review is from: Chaney Instruments Acu-Rite 036168 Wireless Cooking and Barbeque Thermometer with Pager (Lawn & Patio)
The probe is the weakest link with this product. As the directions read "Do not allow probe wire to come in direct contact with flames or heat sources above 600 degrees". OK fine, I can understand that.Unfortunately, it failed anyways. So after following the instructions the probe still failed. I called the 800 number found in the instructions booklet only to get a voice mail. After leaving a message they did return the call and advised me to purchase a new one from the online site. Sorry not good enough, I followed their instructions and was disappointed in the end. I went ahead and purchased a different one from a different manufacturer for 1/2 the cost. This new one is a thermometer/probe all in one that reads the temp very quickly.

Nice product but the probe is its Achilles heel,

Got this from a daily deal site some time ago. It's great when it works. The only feature it's missing are presets for various levels of doneness and types of meat. However, like others on here the cheap probe has caused trouble.Within a month the unit was reading HH and not working. I contacted the company and they sent me a new probe, no questions asked. The second probe has been doing better but I've recently seen HH a couple times, only to have it go away and have the temp reading return, but it's clear that the replacement probe is on its way out as well. The probe cable is thin and poorly shielded, so its no shock that the probe fails. Because of that flaw I cannot reccommend this unit.

Great for Baking Bread!,

I've been using one for nearly three years without a hiccup. I primarily stick it in a loaf of bread I'm baking so that I don't have to "read the crust", like you're supposed to. I've used the pager several times and it always worked well. My probe failed this week, so I'm looking for a new one, but it's really been a great and taken a lot of abuse!

Don't bother!,

A nice concept and it worked well - for the year or so it worked. My guess is that the probe has failed as it displays only 185 degrees whether it's sitting idle in the kitchen or (as a test) in the freezer. I think I'll replace it with a product from another manufacturer.
