4.0 out of 5 stars Krokus' Finest Moment, January 27, 2005
By
Benjamin P. Brown (Everett, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
While this Krokus album is the one everyone loves to hate, I feel otherwise. Since they never were a real first tier metal act, they always wanted to be something other than what they were. Krokus went through a long ACDC sound alike period, then went through a Judas Priest sound alike period. Finally, on Change of Address they sounded like Krokus, and it is a superior album.

Slickly produced with a crisp clean sound throughout the album, it features nine pop metal tunes. Of course due to their constant identity crisis, Krokus always had to put a cover song or two on each album and this one features the classic "Schools Out" by Alice Cooper. I never understood that about Krokus. Instead of taking catchy little known tunes by other artists and covering them and making the tune their own, they always covered a bands biggest hit, and thus their version would always pale in comparison to the original. To their credit, the eight Krokus originals on this CD are much better songs then the Cooper cover.

"Now", "Hot Shot City", "Burning Up The Night", "World On Fire", Hard Luck Hero" are all mid tempo, commercial, hooky tunes. Any of those songs could have been radio hits, but none of them were. The albums finest moment is the beautiful song "Say Goodbye", featuring a reggae like intro, a fantastic solo and terrific vocals. Lyrically the song is about growing up and going out into the world on ones own while never forgetting the family you leave behind, and how this same cycle repeats itself every generation.

In conclusion, "Change Of Address" is much maligned recording that is actually Krokus' finest moment. Why? Because they finally sounded like Krokus.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Krokus Album, NOT the worst, November 7, 2004
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
I disagree with the negative reviews on this album. This album features a lot more creativity than other Krokus albums. Yes it's more pop-metal sounding, but hey that's what most people like. For example, Krokus' popular songs from other albums are the more pop sounding ones, ie. "Our Love", "Screaming in the Night". Also, the guitar work is excellent on this album, despite what another reviewer said. One song features a solo by Alan Holdsworth. And I dig the syth work, nicely done. Buy this one, it's great.

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic melodic hard rock album, July 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
In my mind this album ranks as one of the best in its genre in the 80's. Full of great songs and catchy refrains and hooks. The highlights of this album are Hot Shot City, Hard Luck Hero, Now, Burning Up The night, Say Goodbye, World On Fire. I could name them all, but these are my favorites. A very strong album, with the only weakness perhaps being the cover of the Alice Cooper classic School's Out. This album personifies the great 80's hard rock and I recommend it strongly.
