4.0 out of 5 stars Krokus' Finest Moment
While this Krokus album is the one everyone loves to hate, I feel otherwise. Since they never were a real first tier metal act, they always wanted to be something other than what they were. Krokus went through a long ACDC sound alike period, then went through a Judas Priest sound alike period. Finally, on Change of Address they sounded like Krokus, and it is a superior...

2.0 out of 5 stars The end for Krokus?
"Change of address" is nearly pop metal. On this one Krokus is much more polished than on earlier efforts and it's sad to say but the material is rather weak. A song like "Let this love begin" have we heard a million times from "pop-metal-hair-bands" like Bon Jovi or Cinderella. It follows the blue print for the ballad every metal band at the time had to include on their...

While this Krokus album is the one everyone loves to hate, I feel otherwise. Since they never were a real first tier metal act, they always wanted to be something other than what they were. Krokus went through a long ACDC sound alike period, then went through a Judas Priest sound alike period. Finally, on Change of Address they sounded like Krokus, and it is a superior album.

Slickly produced with a crisp clean sound throughout the album, it features nine pop metal tunes. Of course due to their constant identity crisis, Krokus always had to put a cover song or two on each album and this one features the classic "Schools Out" by Alice Cooper. I never understood that about Krokus. Instead of taking catchy little known tunes by other artists and covering them and making the tune their own, they always covered a bands biggest hit, and thus their version would always pale in comparison to the original. To their credit, the eight Krokus originals on this CD are much better songs then the Cooper cover.

"Now", "Hot Shot City", "Burning Up The Night", "World On Fire", Hard Luck Hero" are all mid tempo, commercial, hooky tunes. Any of those songs could have been radio hits, but none of them were. The albums finest moment is the beautiful song "Say Goodbye", featuring a reggae like intro, a fantastic solo and terrific vocals. Lyrically the song is about growing up and going out into the world on ones own while never forgetting the family you leave behind, and how this same cycle repeats itself every generation.

In conclusion, "Change Of Address" is much maligned recording that is actually Krokus' finest moment. Why? Because they finally sounded like Krokus.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Krokus Album, NOT the worst, November 7, 2004
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
I disagree with the negative reviews on this album. This album features a lot more creativity than other Krokus albums. Yes it's more pop-metal sounding, but hey that's what most people like. For example, Krokus' popular songs from other albums are the more pop sounding ones, ie. "Our Love", "Screaming in the Night". Also, the guitar work is excellent on this album, despite what another reviewer said. One song features a solo by Alan Holdsworth. And I dig the syth work, nicely done. Buy this one, it's great.

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic melodic hard rock album, July 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
In my mind this album ranks as one of the best in its genre in the 80's. Full of great songs and catchy refrains and hooks. The highlights of this album are Hot Shot City, Hard Luck Hero, Now, Burning Up The night, Say Goodbye, World On Fire. I could name them all, but these are my favorites. A very strong album, with the only weakness perhaps being the cover of the Alice Cooper classic School's Out. This album personifies the great 80's hard rock and I recommend it strongly.

2.0 out of 5 stars The end for Krokus?, February 3, 2003
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
"Change of address" is nearly pop metal. On this one Krokus is much more polished than on earlier efforts and it's sad to say but the material is rather weak. A song like "Let this love begin" have we heard a million times from "pop-metal-hair-bands" like Bon Jovi or Cinderella. It follows the blue print for the ballad every metal band at the time had to include on their albums. The cover of Alice Cooper's "Schools out" is okey and so is "Hard luck hero", but the highlight is "Say goodbye" - a song very similar to their own "Tokyo nights" some years earlier.

Take my word, this album is not worth 4 stars. Buy "Hardware" instead!

2.0 out of 5 stars Krokus - 'Change Of Address' (BMG) 2 1/2 stars, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
'Change Of Address' looks to be Krokus's tenth lp.Even though it's not as good as their 'Hardware' or 'Headhunter' releases,'Change...' isn't all that bad.I guess I just more or less favor the Swiss metal outfit.Total of nine cuts here and I liked "Buring Down The Night",their so-so cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out",the somewhat cheezy "Hard Luck Hero" and "Hot Shot City" the best.I suppose that unless you're a major Krokus fan,you might not get that much out of this disc.Line-up:Marc Storace-vocals,Fernando Von Arb-guitar,Mark Kohler-rhythm guitar,Tommy Keiser-bass and Jeff Klaven-drums.

Maybe my favorite Krokus album. If you like the 80's cheese, this will be right up your alley. Just accept it for what it is and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everybody hates Change of Address, October 23, 2007

Yes this is a different sound for Krokus, and yes most people (including the band) hate it. But I like it ! A lot, it may be mostly because of the childhood memories it brings up - you know, innocent times way back when in the 80's - but it is the least AC/DC sounding album they made. Change of address has a more polished overproduced pop sound like a lot of bands had in the mid 80's. Well, it works... at least for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Change of Address? More like No Such Address..., September 1, 2004
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
I was always a big Krokus fan, but Change Of Address almost drove me from the ranks of Krokus fan forever, when it was first released. It is pure crap! It's hard to think of a hard rock/metal band that put out such a pile of garbage after some strong albums. Perhaps the Scorpions', Savage Amusement is in the same league. First of all, Krokus again go the route of the cover tune. This time the Alice Cooper classic "School's Out" gets the Swiss treatment. It's okay, but hardly innovative. After this tune, however, there's not a decent song here. Synth drivel, & boring, dumb lyrics. The guitar playing is weak, which doesn't matter because it's buried under the syntho-slop. Marc Storace puts in a half-hearted effort vocally. It's as if the band knew this thing was bad from the start. If all this isn't enough, the album cover is among the worst ever- and this is from a band that has an awful lot of bad album covers. Just avoid this.

3.0 out of 5 stars The worst Krokus album., August 9, 2000
This review is from: Change of Address (Audio CD)
I'm afraid that I disagree with the other review. Krokus is one of my favorite bands, but this album doesn't sound like them. It's a stretch of the imagination to consider this music to even be hard rock, let alone metal. Tom Werman overproduced this one so much that it's often difficult to hear the guitars, which are buried under layers of keyboards! The only songs that are good here are song 2, which is a fairly good hard rock song, although the riffs are _extremely_ simple, and song 5, which is also not too bad, although it also only uses about a 10th of Fernando's awesome guitar skill, and it has a very stupid chorus. Song 9 features a solo by guest guitarist Allan Holdsworth, which is quite good, but the rest of the song is awful. The Alice Cooper cover song is about 1/3rd as good as Megadeth's awesome rendition of that song. Song 6 is a poppy ballad that's the worst song by this band ever. The other songs, similar to this one, are boring & simplistic pop-rock. 3 stars is actually a generous rating for this album! It is nothing like "One Vice at a Time," which is by far the band's best album.
