5.0 out of 5 stars The Power To Change, May 31, 2003
This review is from: Change (Audio CD)
Fire Engine Red has quite an intriguing story. Depression, death, band members trying to kill them, and even a conversion experience that keeps concertgoers at bay for half of the show. Fire Engine Red's album "Change" features '77 style punk, a la Buzzcocks, set to the text of pure, unadulterated Scripture. Playful, sing along tracks like "Change", "70 X 7", and "Salt And Light" will have their intricate melodies implanted in your brain within seconds of initial listen. On the other hand, the exhortations of "Silence Is A Weakness" and the hymn "Power In the Blood" will quickly have one searching the Scriptures to see how to apply these biblical commands. Although putting biblical commands and promises to modern day music is good and dandy, it isn't such that makes this album so precious and memorable. It is vocalist/guitarist and principal songwriter Tim Ellis' guitar and vocal hooks that set this album on a pedestal. Every track, bar none, leaves dozens of melodies swirling around in your brain for years to come. While this is what makes this studio recording so great, it is the hearts of those playing the instruments that makes Fire Engine Red so loved by those who have been blessed enough to hear them. Their passion for Christ, His Word, and the people who need Him is what brings people back. It is their love for a meaningful relationship with people that makes them so special. In these dark days, a group of real people, who've had real experiences, and who have a real message to tell is dreadfully rare. This is what makes this album exactly what its title says. The power to change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative Happycore Christian Punk Rockabilly Punkabilly, June 4, 2009

This Fire Engine Red CD= "Change" is awesome. If you like "X", the Violent Femmes, the Cramps, the Swamp Zombies, Devo, TSOL, Pennywise, Black Flag, Green Day, They Might Be Giants, old school Stray Cats - Brian Setzer you have found your new favorite Christian Band. They totally rawk. Fantastic blend of Happy Core and slightly surfy punk or punkabilly. Love it. Fantastic lyrics, great harmonies totally awesome. Switchfoot and Jars of Clay and P.O.D. fans will like this too.
If you don't like loud fun music this is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest pseudo-classical/polka album EVER!!!!!!, June 11, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Change (Audio CD)
Let me tell you, I love classical, but I can't seem to get through those long tracks. I also love polka, but don't know ANY good Polka artists; hence, FIRE ENGINE RED!!!!! My favorite member is their Cello player, but I think the girl is awful pretty, but she's married soooooo. I love EVERY SONG (let me tell you) but one song, in particular, El Diablo, gets me pumped for a good old fashioned Italian dinner! The singing is reminiscent of a cross between Yanni and John Tesh (there's a pickle!), but with a Cindy Lauper tinge! If you enjoy outdoor bar-b-ques in the merry month of May, buy this album for fun and everything!
