3.0 out of 5 stars I just didn't like any of the characters enough to finish it
Most reviewers really liked this book, but Annabeth was just too much of a doormat. There was no one who didn't take advantage of her--husband, children, sister, step-mother, friends. Enough, already! And why she wants to save her marriage to a rude, beer guzzling, obnoxious, cheating, loud mouth is beyond me. Based on other reviewers she does finally get her act...

Annabeth's struggle to create a new life for herself while shedding her past baggage was truly a triumph over what should have been a tragedy. This book will have you laughing through your tears as Annabeth deals with a new found freedom and discovers that she is as worthy of attention and love as all the many people she shouldered and cared for her entire life. The writing was superb. The glistening prose highlighted every nuance of emotion, every level of character and made a story already rich in plot evermore important because it showed that Annabeth isn't just a character, she is apart of everyone of us. This story was a fantastic read and is a book that will soon grace your list of yearly reads. Don't pass this book up. It's a definite recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Change of Heart, August 27, 2000

This book is for all the women out there who continually give of themselves and neglect to take in return. I think we can all relate to Annabeth in some way or another. Her strength resulted from a man who did not appreciate her and through it all she discovers that she is a beautiful loving woman. We should all take a lesson from this amazing character.

This is a book that any women can relate too. Annabeth is one of many women that our out in the world that gives of herself without asking for anything in return. You will laugh and cry from start to end. Nancy Frederick was able to capture my attention through out the entire book. You will not want to put down the book until you finish reading it. ++++++++++++++++++++

5.0 out of 5 stars very good, October 14, 2011

I usually do not bother to write a review of a "free" book but this was was very good
The main charater is a good wife and mother. Her husband leaves her and tries to take advantage of her just like he has all her life. Her family and friends do the same
In the book she learns to take care of herself and grow into a person of her own

Worth it i will look for more by this author

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual and Intriguing Coming-of-Age for the Middle-Aged Female, October 26, 2011

****
I so loved this book by Nancy Frederick, which I bought because of the high reviewer ratings and because it was free. Clever Ms. Frederick, because I now want to read her other novel (which I've already purchased) as well as upcoming novels--I'm a fan! I will be a loyal reader if this author continues to deliver such entertaining, emotionally reinforcing, and intriguing work.

Although I wouldn't say that this novel is particularly well-written, there are parts of it that really shine--pretty much any part that explores the main character's (Annabeth's) feelings. This is done in a way that the reader can feel right along with Annabeth as she evolves from a mousy, codependent wife into a self-assured, confident, self-supporting woman. I don't know how to describe this other than to say that I felt her emotions right along with Annabeth as she struggles, stumbles, and encounters various challenges. This is hard to achieve in any novel, but this author does a fantastic job. For me it made the book a page-turner; I enjoyed every minute of reading it.

The book has a lot of interesting supporting characters and includes a lot of humor as well. Annabeth is an artist, has grown children, a Neanderthal of a husband, and a full plate with interesting family members and friends. She deals with divorce, dating, financial problems, infidelity, sexual boundaries and so much more in this novel. This is a great coming-of-age story for those of us who are over 35, although I think that women (and possibly some men) of any age could enjoy it.

Recommended.

Based on other reviewers she does finally get her act together and move on with her life, but I think I'll pass on finishing the book.

I could see myself in Annabeth from the first page. and a few of my friends, too. Every woman should read this book, and it wouldn't do the men any harm either. Fabulous!

2.0 out of 5 stars Started out good but stopped when she slept with anyone, October 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Change of Heart (Kindle Edition)
I was so disappointed with this. The book started out good. Yes, she was wimpy and let everyone walk all over her but she was gaining strength so I was able to look past her original handling of situations and people. But when she slept with anything with a pulse, I just couldn't take it anymore. I didn't finish this book because I was just disgusted with her sleeping with her boss, the old grandfather type man. She wasn't even interested in him yet she sleeps with him. What??? I was so done at this point. She was gaining strength so she should have stuck with it when he was coming on to her. Just ridiculous. Don't waste your time even if it is a free book!

Not really my cup of tea. I wanted to shake Annabeth for being the wimppy woman she was. I could relate to the cleaning of the skeletons in the attic though.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming, beautifully written story of change and triumph, February 2, 2012

This review is from: A Change of Heart (Kindle Edition)
This book touched my heart in countless ways. It was so rewarding to witness this loving and guileless abandoned wife wise up to the ways of the world, develop her own self-esteem, learn to be strong and self-reliant so she could build the life she was meant to live. This story of personal growth and transformation is told with such care and tenderness and so beautifully written, I could read it over and over again.
