4.0 out of 5 stars Useful but not quite what was expected
The change management pocket guide provides some excellent forms for those already familiar with the process. Some forms are obscure and may be less useful. 2.0 out of 5 stars Pocket size
It really is a little (tiny) pocket size book. I was expecting something larger for the price.

The change management pocket guide provides some excellent forms for those already familiar with the process. Some forms are obscure and may be less useful. Rather than forms, dedicating some of the guide to step by step procedures would have been more useful. The guide would be highly useful to an HR specialist rather than an engineer trying to develop a method for evaluating how his workforce will be affected by a change.

Overall, this book will be useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy guide to essential skills necessary for change, July 8, 2005

This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
With 20 years managing complex marketing, software and IT projects, I can say with all sincerity that managing change effectively is a critical factor to the success of most projects. This handy little guide has tools to help you plan, conduct and sustain change. As far as I'm concerned, this is a "must have" guide for anyone who manages projects. No fluff, just tools you can put to use immediately. Consultants will appreciate the concise format and that this guide eliminates extraneous theory in favor of concrete, practical tools to get the job done. This is one of those books that you'll wonder how you lived without. If you're new to managing projects or dealing with reistance to change, this guide will step you through the process, remind you what you need to do next, give you clear tips and strategies and tell you when you've achieved a successful outcome. Tons of great information packed into this handy guide. Worth every penny and then some!

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-oriented change management, June 26, 2005

This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
Whether I'm implementing a major process or structural change across my department or seeking general buy-in and support for a new program or message, the tools and tips in this book have become an important part of my approach. The accessible, down-to-earth style of the book takes what most of us think of as the "nice to haves" we don't always have time for and turns them into simple, tangible actions. If you manage people and teams, if motivating and influencing others are critical to your success, then I suggest you buy one for your pocket - and for the pockets of everyone on your team!

This little book (only 3.5 by 5.5 inches) is very helpful. There are many practical tools, such as worksheets, checklists, tips, and ideas. This book is for practitioners, not academics.

I recommend it in addition to my own book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very handy guide, July 1, 2005
This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
The format of this book is great. The pocket guide style suits the tools, and the size is perfect for carrying in a briefcase or bag. The steps of how to use the tools are easy to follow, and the tips and lessons learned are very insightful. Thanks for creating such a handy resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A resource about HOW to manage change!, June 28, 2005
This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
Most books about change management talk about the importance of managing change and broad change management objectives (i.e. defining the vision, engaging stakeholders). But with this book, my staff and I finally have a resource that helps walk us through HOW to manage change. The tools are easy to use, thorough, and - most importantly - very effective. The Change Management Pocket Guide is an invaluable resource for anyone trying to drive change.

This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
The "Change Management Pocket Guide" provides a straight forward approach to understanding how change effects people and organizations, then offers forms and techniques to mitigate the effects. The guide, in and of itself, is not the whole answer to managing organizational change. But, the form templates, time lines and prescriptive guidelines offer a good place to begin more specific plans. At the very least users of the guide will not re-invent the wheel, or worse spin their own wheels trying to get their minds wrapped around how to manage a situation.

I am working on my second project as the Change Lead, the first one having been a Shared Services Centre implementation in the mining industry.

My current role is that of Change Project Manager on a large ERP implementation for a government department, leading three change consultants, and this little book proved to be invaluable in PRACTICAL ideas and tools, as opposed to a lot of 'armchair theorising' that many textbooks cover on Change Management.

Great little tool, mine already has 'dog-ears' on every corner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Book with Big Ramifications, June 27, 2008

This review is from: The Change Management Pocket Guide (Spiral-bound)
So far I have only had to keep the book close by in the event of an emergency situation I was not able to handle. Then when I checked later for how I would have been able to determine what was the best way to handle something, I ended up finding the answer quickly.

So I like this book for the security it gives me and my staff.
